A very good remedy for this is tea tree oil, pharmaceutical grade, which can nevertheless be purchased over the counter. It is available as a straight oil (good for individual breakouts and less drying to the skin in general) or in soap. This is much milder than straight oil, but tea tree oil dries the skin. So, even though the soap is milder, you're using it over your whole face. Use with a moisturizer but exfoliate skin when necessary.

Word to the wise: straight tea tree oil has a very strong odor and is best used at night, far, far away from the rest of humankind. But it's very effective.

Available in health food stores, catalogs, etc.

I have recently started getting really bad breakouts on my face. THese are awful because they're cyst like and my aunt says it caused from spreading bacteria (from your hands, etc) to these areas and then they get infected. So..I'm going to the dermatologist tomorrow and he is supposed to put me on birth control and accutane....hopefully it will go away. I think that rock climbing has contributed in a way to my breakouts because of my hands being on the rock and getting all dirty and then me touching my face...and usually when I climb outdoors I camp, so I'm not usually as concerned with washing my face.
But my aunt (who is a nurse) said the accutane and birth control should clear my face up completely within about 2 months.

Over the past year I too have developed cystic acne as well. I am already on birth control, but do not feel that I should go near something as powerful as acutane. I just want to know when it will all stop. I am 23. I use neutrogena products. I tried ones with salysictic (sp.) acid as you recomended, but those did nothing to help. I also use tea tree oil.

Help.

I am looking into the philosophy products, but those are like $45.00.

Any more suggestions or will I just have to grow out of this phase?

Hey all,
On this subject - ugh

My life was spent hearing comments from almost everyone that I met " wow, you have the most beautiful skin" It was soft, totally free of any marks etc. I didnt ever have a "zit" Then I hit about 26, OMG! I do believe because I had a breakdown and was put on anti-depressants, this all was contributing. But wow, Zit after zit, and with me not having any experience, I picked and popped and totally messed my face up. I made these things so big, I was afraid to leave the house! In about a week, It will be One year on no meds, I am still getting the few zits but now with control, the picking and squeezing has stopped and I notice they go away much faster! I Have tried all the products, and I mean ALL! I saw a few of u mention Pro-Active, yep, that one was good for me also. But your right when you say expensive, especially when you have to pay Canadian plus shipping. None of the over the counter stuff helped at all. As to the neck and back breakouts, now that Ive read the responses on shampoo, I totally agree! I was getting pretty bad shoulder and neck acne when I was using cheap shampoo. Now I went back to salon stuff and that has virtually cleared it up.
Okay Ive ranted without helping havent I? Sorry, I really didnt find a good solution. But I can tell you that it is much better to use control and leave em alone, dont pick or pop, because youd be amazed at the difference in timespan and scarring!

I am a guy but I use some stuff from clinique called like scruffing lotion or something like that and that workds absolutely great. If I run out of that rubbing alachol works just as good.
