Okay, we all know the whole sneaky sekrets and what happens in the microbrew bar happens in the microbrew bar, but wuz there extreme nakked urban off-piste front(lawn) country skiing? ha ha! Awesome! No there was not. I did enjoy quite a few really good beers though.

Back from my week-long whirlwind tour of the Colorado front range. No climbing per se, but I did manage to get in a two hour snowshoe hike and a 5 hour solo x-c ski in the Indian Peaks Wilderness the first couple days. Here is my native guide/borrowed dogger and I taking a rest at 9500' http://www.rockclimbing.com/..._Scruggs_119445.html The view from my turn-around point. Mid week we spent 3 days toodling around Denver helping my daughter find an apartment to move into beginning in June. We did manage to take a trip out to Red Rocks amphitheater and drive up to Evergreen for some light hiking. The last three days were based in Colorado Springs, where we spent a couple mornings hiking through Garden of the Gods and scrambling V1s in my approach shoes. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...kes_Peak_119444.html http://www.rockclimbing.com/...e_s_Peak_119446.html http://www.rockclimbing.com/...olorado__119439.html We did run into a mountain lion, but I stared him down and we escaped unscathed... Saturday morning I helped judge at the USA Climbing Bouldering Nationals for the semi-finals round. Lots of top name competitors, and the venue was amazing, a portable wall set up in the Colorado Springs City Auditorium. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay to help judge the Finals as we had to leave to catch a red-eye back to Boston and then home. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...ationals_119440.html

I think it's funny that the new gym there didn't get to hold the finals in their gym.

First, by having a portable wall, they can set up in venues that will allow large crowds of spectators. I think the City Auditorium could have held 500+ spectators, and although they only had 200 or so, there was not a bad seat in the house. No gyms could accommodate those kinds of numbers. Second, there would be no "home field" advantage for climbers knowing the intricacies of the existing walls, textures, etc. Third, USA Climbing has total creative control with regards to hiring setters, how it is run, etc. No third party insurance policies to limit operations. Fourth, it is often financially prohibitive for a gym to shut down for 4 or 5 days to strip walls, set, and host, not to mention the added strain on septic services, ability to set up and provide food and gear concessions, blah, blah, blah. City Rock was listed as a companion gym, but I really don't know that meant anything other than an honorary title. The event was near flawlessly run, and accommodated all concerns. They even set up a sky cam that raced across the room taking vids of all the climbers, and the place was crawling with still and video photogs plus press. All to pump up the volume (so to speak) to ready the eventual big push from the USA to have competitive climbing included in the Olympics. It is currently on the "short list," and will be one of the trial event in 2016 (Difficulty, Speed, and Bouldering.) Actually, with these things in mind, all their decisions made perfect sense.

I'm back from teh snow! Had a lot of fun. I really liked the ice climbing...we did some super easy but fun stuff... Warm hike out the first day, crazy windy skills day the second day, Summit day started in the single digits and ended below freezing and windy. A storm rolled in behind us as we made our way back down. Snowed on us the last day. Had a really good group of people. Everyone was really cool, and pretty fit only 4 days of work until new job!

my backpack was pretty annoying for winter, but it worked ok... I think it was good I just used the one I had because I got to see what I didn't like about it... I still want to find a winter pack ... might start with a smaller size though... not sure how often I'll be doing 4 day trips

His tests revealed a duplication of an exon (can't remember which offhand yet). Less than 5% of kids have a duplication, and the one that presented in my son has only ever been seen once before. This means that he doesn't fit into the norm groups, the ones they actually do research for, but he's also an anomally which makes the dr. especially interested in him. Its also a mixed blessing that I can't hold my breath and expect this to follow some kinds of order or schedule. Gotta just go for the ride
