Hey, no news is good news. that year doesn't start ticking until you leave. better that last day is in oct vs. july.
Actually is sept. but yea, later better than sooner. make it past end of july and I get a full year severance.
seriously considering a trip to zion around the end of Sept. One of the other guys on the floor was asking all about it before the shutdown notice came through. Now we'll have a bunch of time. also a trip to Red Rock would be great.

What will you be doing there?

I would recommend October. The fall colors and the canyons are kick ass. I was there in both Sep and Oct last year and October was the better month. Less crowds, the temps are cooler and the colors are better. I stayed in the park the first time and the second time at the first campground outside of the East entrance. You will have to pay extra to drag the trailer through the tunnel, but it is worth it. Plus after unhitching you can come and go easily enough. Then you will also be on the Canyonlands side for when you depart. Easy enough to get to the N. Rim of the Grand Canyon from there as well.

If it makes you feel any better, I peed on my foot last saturday for the first time in like a decade.

Yeah but the difference is that you've been trying to do that for the last decade.

She might have as well. Could be in to that kind of thing. Never know.

Last summer we took 3 weeks in the trailer. 1st week N rim, 2nd week E Zion at Mt Carmel Junction, 3 rd week at Bryce. I'm assuming you stayed at the RV park immediately E of the park. Didn't learn about that untill we were there, prolly wouldv'e been a better option for us, closer and a little higher still. All and all a good family trip.

We are in early discussions on doing some camping and canyoneering after we get canned. One of the new guys on the floor is into backpacking camping and just starting peak bagging, was asking about Zion. I sent him some links, which of course got me all jonesing to hit up something again. So I was hoping to put together a trip in the week long catagory in the late sept to oct time frame.

I like the sound of this Red Rocks talk once the weather has cooled down. Keep me posted.

I got nothing firm at this point. However, the smart money is on my last day be Aug 31. then a quick family camping trip before kids school. Then hopefully Zion.
Then hopefully Red Rocks. Would love to meet up with you and or edge to do some easy multi pitch. The problem being with multi is most of my partners have less experience than me. And I don't have that much. One climb in the 7-8 pitches, handleful of 3-5 pitches. another couple hand fulls of 2 pitches.

The smart money also says that Edge will be long gone from the Red Rocks area by early-mid July. Or so I've been told.

Meaghan returns to Denver today, so we are organizing and taking a rest day in Durango. Tomorrow morning we leave for Moab; Arches and Canyonlands. From there we hit Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon, then Grand Staircase to Bryce to Zion.

Epoch, how is the drive from Zion to the N Rim of the Grand Canyon? OK for an RV, or white knuckle roadrunner cliffs that will make my wife pass out?

RR sooner than later, got it.
Now regarding Zion white knuckle roads. The only white knuckle road in the area is from the Zion tunnel to the Zion valley floor. But even that is not too bad, lots of big hair pins with broad shoulders, but there are narrow sections. Plenty of RVer's and tour busses. However, you may not need to tow through that section at all. I didn't. We drove through Vegas to N Rim-Jacob lake. Nice quite area. The roads up to Jacob lake from the east and west are long straight steady climbs. Although we didn't get any further eask than Lees Ferry / Navajo Bridge.
From there moved north on the east side Zion to Mt Carmel Junction. Now we stayed at the little RV park at the Best Western at the junction. It had big trees for shade, AC to run the AC, and was cooler at 1500 feet higher than Zion canyon floor. It was a little bit of a hoof into the park, and right next to the highway. However, there is another RV park right next to the east entrance, maybe 1 mile. It is higher still, so should be cooler still, and no truckers rolling by all night. It LOOKED like it had AC and some good shade. If I was to RV in Zion again, I would try that place. A lot closer to Zion valley.
From MCJ we headed N to Bryce. From there out to the 15 to Vegas to LA. Doing it that way, I never had to drive the hairpins with the trailer.
Hope this helps.

We threw a tent up at the second place you described. At 1 mile from the entrance you really can't beat it and it's not too long of a drive to the valley. The busses are running and parking will be a pain unless you get there early.

The aforementioned RV park has hookups.

Thanks, men.

Looks like we will be skipping Moab due to 99* temps; we can weekend trip there anyway from our eventual Colorado home.

Tomorrow we head for Page AZ and Antelope Canyon. Anything else to do around Lake Powell? I want to spend one day driving to Grand Staircase/Escalante and hiking in the desert.

How is the drive into the N Rim of the Grand Canyon?

fucking rain.

when it rains here it rains hard...all day...as in, the hard rain doesn't come down for 20min, retreat to a drizzle, and then rains hard again three hours later. No, here, it rains hard from 8am to 5pm...and then it rains hard again from 5pm to 8am the next day...for several days in a row. Mad

Well, we had a meeting today, to get us the latest updated info...
Little to no new info.
Drepressing as all hell. Unsure

So I actually jonesing to get on some multipitch.
Do some canyoneering.
Maybe some wheeling out in Death valley.
But at some point, in amounst all that, I need to look for a new job Unsure

Easy. We stayed outside the park at Jacob Lake. Nice quite area, but we we're off the main drag at the little RV resort.

There's been a few lines on jobs come through.
Latest email was for a location that needs more than a few people...
