Hi, we're trying to get an idea of how many letters/e-mails have actually been sent to the representatives on the Yonah Access Page. If you could post or pm, it would be greatly appreciated. I have started a similar thread on se.climbers.org, so if you've put your name there, don't worry about here. Thanks!

You know I don't guess I just really understand this,,, I've read the letter a couple times and it just don't fly with me. I’ve never been turned away from Yonah,,, and I’ve been up there when the Army was up there in the week and I've even used there ropes a couple time to rap down.. Put your hiking boots on and hike up the damm thing... What is all this really about?? I understand that some people get to ride to the top,,, I’ve seen it (hunts) The Forest Service will never sale Yonah like what someone told me they where going to do if we didn’t get a road to the top…. Hell to many people like looking at it from Basstown and around… I just don’t understand,,, be pissed at me if you want to but at the same time fill me in on the truth on this,,, Tommy But at the same time I copyed the letter and working on finding the addy for it to go in the mail [ This Message was edited by: tommyf on 2003-01-28 07:55 ]

Tommy, The point is that we have paid for land to gain access closer to the top and we are being denied the access to this land. That is what we are asking for. There are a number of climbers around that like to climb up there but aren't necessarily able to make that 3 mile hike anymore. I personally don't mind the hike too much but I'm not the only one going up there.

We need a reasonable access for trail days/cleanups and generally keeping an eye on the place. Sure, you may not have been denied access, but the present road (incidentally we pay for its upkeep) could be closed at any time at the whim of the residents. I have seen this sudden change in accessability occur 3 or 4 times in 20 years. One day it's all hunky dory, the next day there's signs all over that read "keep out". What other motive would we have?

Tommy, what's to stop the homeowners from saying no tresspassing period. They did it back in '95. It was closed for a long time to foot traffic even. Who's to say that the same people that allowed the foot traffic even own anything there now? But let the naysayers have their way. If the road gets closed again and the new access pints aren't open, I'll still be able to sneak in and I won't share.

And that's not to say that all the homeowners up there are jerks because a lot of them aren't - a number of them are very climber friendly and will stop and offer a ride up to the Forest Svc gate or will just want to stop and talk for a bit but I guess it only takes one sometimes to cause problems.
