Even though my climbing experiance is limited(just started),I would probably do it if there was somewhere on the coast that wasn't battered by huge waves. Actually, now that I think about it I remember someone at school talking about a lake that had a cliff on one side with really deep water underneath it. Missing the dyno would be just as fun as sticking it!

Hmmmm....one thing I've never could figure out about deep water soloing is the case of the fall....wet shoes, and bye bye chalk...or perhaps you water soloists have some crafty solution to the problem....hmmmmm....

What you do about the chaulk and wet shoes is that you have more than one pair of shoes. have a look at this vid. www.climbxmidea.com it is on dosage and is whicked. they are climbing a 60 foot wall and falling off alot.

Should any of you decide to go above 50 or 60 feet, when you fall, if you fall...be sure to keep your legs together and your arms over your head. should your legs come apart, a fall of higher than 70 feet will snap your legs off like twigs in a hurricane. Unless your arms are over your head, if your lucky, the water wont catch your fingertips, pull your arms out, and you wont have to deal with the excrutiating pain of having the surfacing nerve on the backside of your arm slap into the surface of the water. -my two cents(that you might want to listen to) Matt

OH BABY! I LOVE DEEP WATER SOLOING! I live in Arizona, and believe it or not have found a perfect place for it. Perfect sandstone in a canyon filled with water year round. Beautiful landings (but always make sure.) Anything from 10 feet to over fifty feet! (Though my courage hasn't taken me over 20, yet ) I'm telling you, this place is awesome, and it's close to Flagstaff and Winslow... I'd say more about it, but I haven't done enough yet, seeing as how the water is like 40 degrees this time of year! Anyway, Clear Creek is the place! I'm gonna post some pics on my website as soon as it gets warm enough. www.tucsonwallcrawlers.com

Summersville Lake in WV is the place to be if this is your thing. You can solo on cliffs varying from 20ft to 100ft on established climbs. Personally I don't go above 30ft or so. Blowing a big move and landing on your back really sucks.

At least at Summersville, you float over or traverse over. If David (slcliffdiver) pipes in he will tell you the scoop, he's all about soloing above the lake.

I'd sure like some of you brit's to chime in here! In england they've made this into a whole other "style " of climbing. They have "splash" rating's- S1to S5? which indicte what the water is like ie..depth rocks, height of fall. They also have a number of Deep water soloing festivals every summer. I'd like more info on the festivals if anyone has any! josh

There is an article in the novemder issue 2002 about it. there are lots of trad climbs done above deep water that no one has attempted that I know of. I thinkthay dont atempt it because it is realy high. the juy talking about the water landing is 100% wright because I used to do bridge jumping

Lox: maybe, but if its over water, WHO CARES? a little surprise dip if that hold breaks... hehe, but i can c how that would get on ur nerves, falling b/c its chossy shiz. there is probably (definately, just dont't remember exactly where) some DWS in NH... some cliff jumping places, one is called "Sculptured Rocks", looks like it could have a few nice slopey lines if the rock isn't all wet. I'll check it out when i head up there this summer. it is like 10 min. from Rumney. there are other places, but i forget where they are.

So, I'm watching the History Channel tonight... a show about ice trucking in the N.W. Territories... and they talk about Great Slave Lake. I drop the name into Google to learn more and... whoa! http://www.legendaryex.com/tours/kayaking_great_slave.html If I had a few grand to blow, and 12 days free... I'd be sooooo there. Anyway there's a photo on the page of some beautiful lakeside rock. I bet that water is pretty chilly! Incentive not to fall. Enjoy

Any Washingtonians have any places to deep water solo in WA? I've always wanted to try it, but never really seen a good place to do it. It looked to me like there might be some in the Columbia River Gorge, but I'm not sure...

only water soloing (that i know of) in socal is bouldering over swimming holes. It's more like shallow-water bouldering than deep-water soloing. Has anyone created a climbing wall over a pool yet? I'd think it could be pretty fun.

Pics from a trip last year at Summersville Lake WV; http://homepage.mac.com/slcliffdiver/Climbing/Summersvile_Pics.html it takes a loooong time to load with a slow connection but I think the pics are worth it. Hey Will are you the Will that I was talking with earlier? I'm a bit unsure because your profile puts you in NC. If so could you e-mail me the pics from the trip that are ready when you can. I'm really psyced to see them.

You like climbing on cliffs. Well Hawaii has some immense coast lines with some large cliffs and caves. At various cliff jumping spots I have found you can climb out of the cave ina 30 move problem. You top out at about 35-40 feet but you jump from about 50. ITs quite fun, but its just like doing highballs except the landings are a little better in the ocean , depending on your height and the way you fall!

How about Lake Powell, here in Utah/Arizona? It's got all kinds of crazy cliffs over deep water. Does anyone here know about any in that area? I've always wanted to try it, but have never gotten around to it. The water would be pretty warm during the summer too.

Hey Wakeclimber, welcome to rc.com. Usually people don't reply to thread that are over 8 years old, it's kinda just a thing around here. The posted date is just to the left of the post. Climbing over a pool would be neat, though, but it would have to be a pretty deep pool and the surface might be tauter then the sea or other bodies of water with more movement/dissolved gases. Harder landing. p.s. STFU, YOREGUNNADIE, n00b, etc.etc.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I was actually saying welcome, and letting him know that if he checks the date on the left he can see what date the post weas made at. I guess I have been spending too much time on another forum where we start any message to a new comer with "welcome". I put the smiley in there on purpose to let the dude know I was being friendly. Shit, maybe I should just go back to posting "Shit, I dunno! LOL!" or "fuck ewe!" on every fucking thread so people will get off my fucking back and go back to bitching about me in dedicated campground threads.

Shit, maybe I should just go back to posting "Shit, I dunno! LOL!" or "fuck ewe!" on every fucking thread so people will get off my fucking back and go back to bitching about me in dedicated campground threads. STFU Jerkwad FUCK EWE! I'll Kut yore rowp! Not an issue - If the route I am climbing is easy enough for you to be my partner, I am not going to fall. Oh yeah? Well the jerk store called. They're running out of you!
