If you're checking out MASS CLIMBERS for the first time, here's the deal - we're in Massachusetts (physically or metaphysically), we climb. A while ago we started this thread to organize small gatherings so we could meet new climbing partners, welcome new climbers, improve as climbers, and drink beer. Yes, it's a long thread. No, we don't spend all day on here, it just seems like it. Welcome. Here's the primer, courtesy of cracklover.
In reply to: I realize that it may not be that clear what this thread is about. Just so you know, the primary purpose of this thread is to organize climbing with each other. Secondary is to share beta on the climbs of the region, and encourage each other in our progress. Third, of course, is social. It's hard enough for those of us who do have valid contributions to stay on track here. So if you do have something valid to add, please step up. If not please step out. Check out the MASSACHUSETTS ROUTES DATABASE. For historical purposes, the following information is being left on this post without editing. For recent information, check out the later pages of the thread. Good luck keeping up with us! Mass Climbers Calendar February ... Congrats to the MASS CLIMBERS Godfather "Bonesz." He's a real father as of this month. We're celebrating this year by having an extra day to climb. Banff Mountain Film Festival is in Summerville this month. The last month of "winter" rock climbing - don't wait til March. Be hard core. THIS MONTH MASSCLIMBERS BECAME THE #1 REPLIED-TO THREAD ON THE SITE. WE NEED LIVES!!!1 January ... some fools like ice, others like C-Wall, still others are finally pulling plastic. The David Brashears film Everest returns to imax theatres this month. Check out this link to see the description and movie times in Boston and Natick. It's bouldering season, kids! Get out there and send! Don't forget your handwarmers. The rock is outdoors 12 months of the year, you should be too. December ... die-hard mofo's still climb outdoors. the scene is at Lincoln Woods in RI. Check it out. [brown]November[/brown] ... foo b q? anyone? October ... RC.com Rumney Gathering part deux, info on rc.com somewhere September ... Adopt-A-Crag: Lookout Rock, Northbridge on Sept. 6 ... MASS CLIMBERS Everst Day 2003 on Sept. 13. August ... no events, just get out there and climb ... ########## What is this thread? More importantly, what has this thread been and what will it be? It has been a place for climbers from and around Massachusetts to find out about mini state gatherings. It has been a place for the "join me at (insert crag name here) on Saturday" posts, and the "we climb at BRG on Thursday evenings" info ... it has been the perfect partners thread. I even met my future wife on this thread (that last one is not true, actually). What will it be? Hopefully it will continue for a while to be a good place for people to meet up with partners and find out info about when MASS CLIMBERS are meeting up. A little history for you ... A number of Mass Climbers itching to get outdoors in the middle of winter started talking about setting dates for meeting new partners and getting back outside as soon as possible. We started with a day at Quincy Quarries on 1 March, but were rained out of our plans for an April meeting on the 12th at Rose Ledge. Go to the end of this here thread and get in on the action. MASS CLIMBERS are good, simple folk who enjoy all types of craggin and are proud of our little rocks and the big ones in the states nearby. Welcome! Check back often for info.

I've never been to Quincy Quarries but it sounds good to me. I can't wait to get back outdoors, so if I see that groundhog I'm gonna kick his little butt! Let me see if I can get the day off from work and I'll get back to you.

i can't plan that far in advance but rose ledges is probably okay with me. i think i may have devised a scheme that will allow me to show at QQ for a couple hrs of climbing before i have to head off and do family duties...just enough time to stymie you all with my amazing climbing ability and then leave in a blaze of glory.... yeah right.....

Hi folks, as you can see from my sig, I live in Milford MA, where's Rose Ledge from there? I'd be interested in getting out to that, if it's not TOO far away... not sure about the 1st of march. in the other thread I mentoined that I climb weekly at Gravity in franklin...anybody else on this board go there? I just started climbing regularly last november...I used to go to REI every saturday back about 5 years ago and climb the arch, and I've done some scrambling at a couple local no-name outcroppings I never climbed seriously outside, so are we talking top rope, lead, bouldering, or what?

My wife and I will both be there along with another buddy. I have plenty of gear to rig TR's. Aside from that, I'd be happy to bring anything else. Looking forward to it....

Oh Man, the Quarries are lookin schweeeet ... Ejlim and I went out there today to check out the winter craggin scene. It went well. Temperatures were in the 40s and we were in T-shirts at the Reflector Oven Wall (aka C-Wall). We had to dig out of the huge snowdrifts at the base of C-Wall in order to climb on it ... By the time we finished chowing some lunch the areas we cleared at the bases of the climbs we wanted to do were dry. We TR'd a couple and I led one as well. All in all it was a good trip. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you folks there March 1st. Hopefully there will be less snow at the base and we won't have to do much digging. I just wanted to drop this note in here that on a warm day like today, there are a number of climbable lines, not just on C-Wall, but on Knight's Wall, L-Face and Painted Face in the afternoon as well. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you ever believed it was gone, the climbing season is here. If you're looking to get outside, and the weather is in the upper 30s or higher, don't wait. And if you haven't said you'll come on March 1st because you think the weather will stink, remember that our backup plan is to meet at the gym. Let's get a few more in on this. o.k.

In reply to: Hey, the forecast for this Saturday (March 1) is for fun in the sun! Don't let the nasty weatherman scare you with tales of highs in the 30s. The solar oven that is the C-wall is usually 10 degrees warmer, and cut off from the wind. Seriously - I speak from experience! Anyway, unless the forecast changes for the worse - I'll be there. Probably around 10:30. I'll post a note on the BRG board too. GO awesome. see you there
