....How many of you own a harness, and if you do, are you aware of it's location at this very moment????

....oh, and how long has it been since you used one of these curious objects????

You bi-sexual or something?

Yes lots of climbers own harnesses. They wear them when climbing with a rope and not when climbing without.

Next question.

I was just wondering how many boudlerers out there don't own a harness or just don't know where the hell theirs is......as in, they DON'T EVER DO ROUTES.....

......and curiosity as in, curious as to the answer to my above question

....your definition of curiosity leads me to believe that you yourself, are, in fact, VERY CURIOUS.......

rockfax, i'd show a little respect if i were you... maybe you haven't noticed that this is a BOULDERING forum?

well, i am ashamed to say i have a harness and know exactly where it is. i am not ashamed to say that i use it mostly for work, only occassionally to climb.

however, i would like to add that if you (rocco) wouldn't mind giving me a spot every now and then and making sure i don't get fired for climbing w/out a rope, i would be perfectly happy to never use that thing again in the gym. apparently Wisel has a problem with my climbing up to the roof...

i am seriously starting to like ropes less and less. they get in your way and pull you and are such a hassel. of course, they have their advantages (just not in a gym with 20' walls...    )

Ok, you're 15' up in the gym, no rope, and a hold spins. You deck, dislocated elbow or wrist or shoulder or something. Your parent's insurance pays off. Then your parent's insurance company smells blood in the water and goes after the gym owner to recoup. His insurance triples. No more gym and the owner is out 6 figures or whatever his investment was. You can do whatever you want outside but don't put somebody else's ass on the line indoors.

alot of boulder problems in our gym are 15-20', but rest assured that we never go that high without a bunch of pads and some good spotters......I mean, imagine your belayer drops you to the concrete floor, or onto one of the wooden benchs in the gym.....probably worse, cause you don't expect to come down when you fall......

nothing wrong with some nice highballs, as long as you stack about 2' of padding underneath you first.

o btw rocco how did that LEAD CLIMBING go the other day? i was so pissed i had to miss such a historic moment... word is you had a little bit of trouble getting to the end...

you should be proud, really. my goal is to do Mandala before i have ever lead anywhere. how sick would that be, sitting around talking about Mandala and stuff, and not know how to clip a draw?

Please never speak of the above mentioned event again.....I feel quite ashamed on many levels......but I think you are wrong about one thing, you should learn ALL aspects of climbing, because then you can better appreciate them.....and you can never know if you like something or not until you try it.....that is why I led the other day, because I hadn't been on the sharp end since I first started climbing, so I figured I'd give it a shot.......it still sucks (my opinion).........

Some people like to boulder, some people like routes. What's it to you? If you're a 5.12 trad leader, you'll never have to see a boulderer. If you're a boulderer, you'll never have to see a 5.12 trad leader. Way too much animosity tonight.

Oh give me a friggin' break. Some idiot points a camera at you for 5 minutes while you fumble towards some sort of coherent point and kids line up to call you the father of biship boldering.

Mick Ryan is a guy.

He's not even that smart, he just does research well.

Well enough to know that people were boldering in Bishop long before he arrived on the scene.

You should thank him for Morning Dove White and move along... the last thing these cali chuffers need is encouragement... lol.

I have several harnesses, and I used to use them regularly on medium to LONG TRAD routes... However, sniff, I have been recently humbled due to a lack of time, and I now have to get my fix down in the gutters, with the other junkies. So, hello my new brothers and sisters, welcome me as I join in the struggle to regain my previously lofty position by scrambling around in the nether regions...

I own 3 harnesses and they are all sitting in my largest haulbag unused since 1998.

Every year I think, "maybe this Summer I might bust em out and use a rope somewhere in the Rockies". Every summer I just keep bouldering instead. Winter, of course, is primo Bouldering season.

I own a couple -- as I love trad climbing and even sport, but..

I haven't used a harness outside since last summer.

I do some laps of routes in the gym for endurance (and it's side effect vascularity -- which I feel no amount of power bouldering can effectively improve).

But lately it's been 9 parts bouldering to 1 part routes.

BTW, to the person who described the insurance nightmare above. Does this mean that there's no chance that there never accidents (equipment or human failure) when roped up at a gym? Surely you can't be suggesting that...

I own one... I know exactly where it is... I havenīt used it in 3 1/2 months because of some gasoline shortage problems. (only boulders nearby)

By the way, for all of you who think that you get gasoline pretty cheap... think about this... here in Vzla 1 galon of gas is around $0.20 U.S.

i own a coupla harnesses, (for me belay slaves that dont really climb :) ), a full rack of draws (about 25), and have a small, albeit useful, trad rack. i enjoy all different aspects of climbing. ive led several multi-pitch routes both in tuolomne and in the gunks, i sport climb frequently in the summer, and i even know where everything is...

i just happen to enjoy bouldering more for the sheer difficulty and lack of time constraints. sport climbing with beginners is pretty lame, considering you have to lead everything twice, and by the time they get done with the 5.9's, im too tire to try the 5.12's...

on the other hand, a beginner boulderer can climb on the same rock all day long...and not find themselves so far beyond their abilities that fear takes over and prevents any real learning...

I have a few harnesses, all hanging in the garage with the rest of my gear including a couple crashpads. Most of the harnesses are Misty Mountain, including a Cadillac for the trad. If the question was regarding experiences, each year I set a goal in sport, trad, and bouldering and try to do all three goals as close to each other as possible.

As for Mick, he didn't start the bouldering in Bishop, but he researched it well enough. I think Lox started all bouldering....

I'm all about bouldering, but I'm also all about sport climbing, but I'm also all about caving... I'm torn. And I used my harness about two weeks ago, to do the deepest pit on earth, after the group of norweigans that were there got finished base jumping into it of course .
