One of my buddies made an over the shoulder bag purse type thing out of a bunch of old rope cuttings. It's rad. He also made a rug.

Mine is hanging in two roughly 30m sections on a hook on my dorm room wall. Two 30m sections that are in pretty good condition seeing as how I only climbed on it 6-7 times. Beal double dry dynamic 10.5 if anyone wants to buy my pieces. I have enough webbing and cord for anchors etc so I don't need it. PM me!

[edited to provide a valid reason as to why it's in two pieces]

I was taking a group rapping off some cliffs and one of the people jumped off and to the side, dragging the rope off of the pad and over a sharp edge, killing the sheath. So with the core exposed I had to 'retire' it. It was so sad... like shooting a beloved dog.

Dude. why didn't you just cut the bad part off and keep using it? If it's still good climb on it, if not why would you sell it?

GT Snowracing. Attach the old rope to your vehicle. Tow your friends. Or make your friends tow you. It's crazy fun.http://www.rocketsky.net/...s/ices_lol_large.gif

Well, I don't climb on it because I don't know of any climbs that would only use 30m of rope... I've got another 60m sterling rope that I use now.

If you don't use it yourself find a friend with a 50 foot Bayliner and donate the rope to him/her. Boaters love the high quality rope and it may result in a regular invitation to fish/cruise etc.

Cheers,

My brother is using my retired rope as an anchor line for his sail boat. He worked at a gym for a while and got a whole bunch of retired gym ropes he uses for his sail boat stuff. Apparently, the gym ropes were used hard enough to go from semi-static to static line.

I saw an ad for a place where you send your old rope in and they make a rug out of it.

Retire my rope(s)? I have several, and whenever I think I need a new one, I buy it if I can afford it... but I can't seem to get rid of my old ones. I'm too sentimental, so I just keep on using them... I seem to find a use for them, even if I don't lead on them anymore.... BUT I do like some of the rope rug ideas! Maybe in another 5 years I'll retire my first rope (that would make it 10 years old)... we'll see.

Lox, just in case you forgot, UV radiation degrades rope. While you may be a solid climber, I personally would not want ot find out that after 10 years of use my rope could no longer hold the same fall it could when it was new.

When that rope is a ???? you can always use two ........I love to get a lot of fixxed lines to give a good head start.... So hey jug on one and do your tie off thing on the other. Should anything go wrong one or the other of those waisted lines will work. I also bridge jump on old lines, of corse with something new tied just a little longer just in case. Hate to put all that load on my good lines......

Just sell it to a less knowledgable climber. Claim it as being a year old and you never got out to use it so you're getting rid of it.

Why would you bridge jump on your old rope, with a new rope also? The stretch you'd get on your new rope would load it conciderably too? And if your old load blew, you'd have conciderable shock load on your new one too! And how are you rigging rope jumping for double ropes anyway, there's severe danger there...on second thought don't tell me unless it's in a PM. Those things are best kept quiet I think. But I am very curious however!!! :o
