First learned to climb on blasted railroad rock on the Hudson. First real climbing area was the Gunks, NY. The crag where you can be proud to say you are a 5.6 leader

Not counting indoor as a Girl Scout when I was 9... First outdoor climb: some random toproped 30-foot thing on private property in Garner Valley (San Jacinto Mtns., CA) that the guys I worked with called "Sunburst." I think it was a 5.5 or 5.6, and I toproped it in my running shoes with 25 children cheering me on. First sport lead: a 5.6 slab at Margaritaville in the High Desert.

The first place I climbed was in a gym, then some bouldering and eventually the first REAL climbing that I did outdoors was SENECA.... we did Conn's West... not a bad place to start if you ask me. PS. I am drunk right now, and this makes me happy.

1st outdoor lead was at Eardley Escarpment--primal scream, and I did scream too with a runout crux! (1st time on real rock) man--I totally fell in love that day, sun setting over the west end of the escarpment line. Climbing... Once it's in your system  Peace, -p edited to clean the windshield

First climb was Walk on the Wild Side, Joshua Tree National Monument, back in 1992. And thanks to my friend Brent Cooley for getting me into it. Before then, I had done quite a bit of caving with a Scout troop in Southern Oklahoma. But I dont consider that when I started "climbing". That was more like wallowing. :D

1st indoor climb. was at a rock climbing gym. 1st and last outdoor climb was near boulder CO. A cool canyon called Eldorado Canyon. It was a 5.7 climb. But the overhang made it feel like a 5.9. I would still love to go rock climbing, but time and no friends near by that climb make it very difficult to go. Steve

Seneca Rocks West by God Virginia - Where the men are men & the sheep are scared. Cow tipp'n is like take'n a bunch of college to drunk to know what their do'n coeds on their very first snipe hunt. Long live Buck Harper & his WV handshake. The stench that rose from the Roy Gap Camping area was a cornucopia of marijuana, cheep beer, sweat, chalk dust & sex, (read: sheep), all serenaded by Gerry Garcia himself. The sound of the clanking drilled out hexes was your morning wake-up call. The trip across the swinging bridge was your best bet to regain your equilibrium from the previous night’s debauchery.

Crow Hill; Tarzan. First ascent of "dons slab" (named by someone else) 5.6 stayed away from the large inside crack that everyone uses with laybacks.

ABC Wall in Railay Thailand. I cried and cried when I got to the top of the first route. I was so terrified! I think I was maybe 25 feet off the ground on a 5.7.
