Let's see... here is my own personal 'dumb things' list that comes to mind:

1. I once accidentally took myself completely off belay at a belay station several hundred feet from the ground. Good thing I was on a huge ledge.

2. I was second on a two pitch climb at the end of the day, and by the time we got th the top it was night time. We had no head lamp, and the leader asked me to put the back up knots on the square knot we were using for the double rope rapell, in the pitch darkness. I was the last to rapell of the route and when we pulled the rope, both of the back up knots had become completely undone. When we got back to the care we found out one of us had a head lamp and another had a mini light with us all along.

3. Last week after a month of not climbing, I nearly unclipped the rope from the anchor at the top of the climb.

Who wants to go climbing with me??? :D

My stupidest mistake climbing was the time that i didnt tie my climbing shoes thight enough when i clipped them to my harness. well anyways they came undone and ended up falling into this little crack when i was repelling. well my climbing partner had to go about 60ft down into this little crack to get my shoes for me. i felt so bad.

Many years ago, at Suicide Rock, I was climbing with some people for the first time and suggested they might like Ten Karot Gold on the Weeping Wall. "Its all bolted" I recall telling them, so I grab some carabiners and a couple slings and was off. It was not until I tried to set a belay atop the 2nd pitch that it suddenly dawned on me "Oh yeh, I need gear for an anchor." Luckily, I was able to cam and wedge some of the biners and wedge a knotted sling and set up a reasonable belay.

Another time, we were doing some route on Piwiak (it has an 11 move near the bottom, then gets easier). I get to the belay and "Uh Oh." I hadn't brought anything bigger than a couple tiny stoppers. After a few minutes fiddling, I yelled down to Maria "Don't fall, all I got for an anchor is a #1 stopper in sideways..." Of course, she didn't fall.

I try to carry a bit more gear these days.

I can't think of too many things. I did forget to double back my harness once, but it was in the gym. When I started climbing with wonderwoman, we both believed that she was the safe one and I was the crazy one. Read her post above and now I am not so sure. I guess I better marry her so I can keep her safe for the rest of her life.
