I've thought this one through and through. I always said that I couldn't be with someone who didn't climb but I digress. I think maybe I could as long as that individual didn't hold me back from climbing. I can still be this active in climbing and be very giving in a relationship but when the other person is not willing to let me be me (a climber) than it will never work. Ideally, a climber who shared my passion would be the type of man that I want to be with, simply because sharing my passion with someone who feels equally passionate about climbing would be fulfilling, I think.

he said it was becuase I climbed without telling him last weekend, but I really think he just wants to go do some hard stuff and doesn't want a girl tagging along.

I met my girlfriend through climbing. She shares the same addiction to climbing. So, I have no worries about what I'm doing in my free time, because I know I'll be climbing with her. I couldn't ask for more. :D

what happens if she decides to be a sport climber, and you go on to develop a love for trad, or decide you want free solo?

I've been through that before. In my case, it got worse. The jacka$$ even started spraying all over this site about me because he was so jealous. I hope it doesn't get too bad for ya. Good luck.

It is a legitimate question. What is wrong with 15 year old climber dudes is completely different, and much simpler than what is wrong with 35 year old climber dudes.

Me. I like variety. But climbing is my drug of choice. I like to use it weekly. If it starts hurting me, I ease off. If it cuts too much into the time I like to spend with my friends and wife, I ease off. I'm not totally addicted in that I define addiction as the inability to agree that one should control usage of the said addictive substance or activity. I. E. I would not sacrifice food, shelter, all the money I had left, to climbing. I would not however quit to please anyone else. No one close to me would ever even suggest such a thing. But then that's the kind of people I want around me.
I would never tell a friend, "I'm a climber. You aren't. So I don't have time for you." Caver friends of mine gave that message to other friends who dropped out in not so many words. My friend Cathy calls these people monocultures. Mark Twight is one. Or is he? Hard to say. It's not an insult really, just a term. Labels rarely stick on people for long. They'll say they don't eat meat and then go kill something and eat it raw out of the blue.

I regularly sleep with aiders, the wife has been a little jealous as I have started to "spoon" them.
You see climbing routes is like life, except you get to do it over and over again. There is nothing life has that climbing dosen't and unlike life, if you don't like the one you're on, you can try another.

Honestly, I would support her decision to move into whatever realm of climbing she chooses, and I'm sure it would be the same on the flip side.
As for now, were ino the same type of climbing, sport and bouldering, and pretty much climb at the same level.
So, to answer your question, I guess I(we) would deal with it as it comes. Can you really do anything else?
