I PMed greenspace (or is it Greenpeace) and I told him the following: I live in Skokie (it's 5 min. North of Chicago) so if anyone wants a ride, that'll be cool just as long as they chip in for gas. One more thing: where can I get a good sleeping bag for a cheap price? I'll also need to get a tent.

I can head down Thursday or Friday, but can I meet up with someone to share a ride. I don't care if I drive. I'm coming from WI, so I'd love to have someone to split the ride/gas with. I also have a tent and an extra sleeping bag + pad. I'm looking to head back Monday afternoon.

OK! I'm driving down there so if anyone wants to meet me and carpool down there, PM me. Tell me where to meet/pick you up. We will split gas. I will be leaving Friday, doesn't matter but the sooner the better to beat traffic and to get me out of my mom's house ASAP. Laters.

I live in Lexington, KY about 40 minutes away from the RRG. Might I suggest a delightful climb named Lord of the Flies in the northern part of the gorge near or on Phantasia Wall. It's a fantastic 5.9 and I believe it is 6 bolts. The crux is a nice finger pocket two-thirds up. Enjoy yo self. Oh yeah if you go to the gorge you have to burn down. It's a spiritual ritual we usually partake in. Love, Steve

Ok, I have about a 4hr drive and I just realized I have a class until 2:50, so I will leave around 3:15, and arrive @ Miguels at about 7 or 8pm, is that too late to get a camp site @ Miguel's? If that is too late to meet up, then I can just meet in the morn there. Let me know what is up C.

Alright here's my new plan! I'm heading down there Thursday night with some friends from WI, climbing thursday and then I'm planning on being at Miguel's around 8 for dinner. I figure it'll be getting to dark to climb then anyway. If anyone wants to meet me there, great! My picture is on my profile (I'm not clever enough to put it on here). I'll be driving a green dodge dakota w/ a cover on back and a bike rack on that. I have an rc.com sticker on my truck's back window. Or I'll be in my friends black toyota matrix with a bike rack on top. Hope to see you all there!

We could organize this better no one should be driving solo. Anyone around the chicago indiana area PM me with what's going on and your phone numbers and also if you hae a big car. I say we just pack as many people in one car as we can and split the gas. I'm definitely up for stopping by indiana as long as we take someone elses car because I don't know if mine would make it! MOWZ where are you!

Who can I meet in Indy? I have a nice Caddy I will be driving(family car), so I am confident it will make it. Of course the Labor day gas increase may be costly. It gets fairly good mileage, 27mi/gal on highway. Any takers pm me or chris_rennaker@hotmail.com

I have a montero sport with lots of room, and since im driving solo it just makes sence. As for my return date I can return whenever as long as it is before Monday afternoon, I have classes on Tuesday that I need to be here for. Organic said he plans on leaving chicago around 4 so it will be 7 by the time he gets to indy, so maybe we can all joint up. That would be 4 ppl in my suv. anyways let me know asap. Eric

it's closed. It's been raining almost non-stop for a solid year and the Red River has finally washed out all the roads. You will be turned back. I think it may reopen by next Spring, but there is some serious talk of damming up the river and flooding the entire gorge to make a big lake.

In reply to: How come it doesn't say anywhere online that it is closed? I think the Stanton Ranger District may be having computer issues, due to the flooding. Personally, I think it's the beginning of the countdown to Armageddon!

alright...check it out guys... take a look at the percent chance of rain (30, 50, 50) that means you have the following chance it wont rain on those consecutive days (70, 50, 50) the glass is half full i've gone and done outdoor activities with 80-90 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms, and not a single drop fell. quit listening to those brainless meteorologists that cant predict with any accuracy more than 6 hours into the future. go and have fun! just bring a canoe for those flooded roads!

OK!!! This is it! I'm am not logging on till AFTER the RRG trip so here goes: Orgo: I will PM you w/ directions to my house. Everyone else: Call me if you need a ride. Orgo will be meeting me at my house Friday and we will be going to a party Friday NIGHT so we won't leave till later. If anyone needs a ride AND wants to go to a party call please. You can get my number from Organic. He has it. I need to also find out when the camp grounds close around there so I can time the drive just right. Thank you. And who cares if it rains. Are you peeps going to melt? No. Can you climb when it stops raining and the stones dry? Yes. If we all get caught in a flood, will it be a nice adventure? Yes.

If it rains in the gorge you will be fugged. Mud, humidity, bugs, and approaches will make you unhappy. If you are hard, you should be ok. Poosies should stay home.

ok, organic and mowz, greenspace and I are planning on leaving indy tomorrow around 6 in the afternoon. I take it that your party is in chicago so we wont be driving up there for that, if its anywhere south of Indy im down. I think that we will be staying at miquels, if I cant talk to you before then just look for the black montero sport with the red arcterix sticker on the rear window. My cell # is 423-503-6629 and ill have it with me all the time so just call me whenever. As for the rain and this closure crap, im with mowz, if all that we hear is true its just a bump in our way to climbing and in the end it will make it more fun. Anyways, hope to see you guys there. Eric

ok, as a closure to this post; mowz, organic, greenspace and I headed down to the RRG this weekend. The conditions were variying at best. We were, wet and muddy, hot and sweaty, and other times cool and perfect, but we still managed to send a good number of routes and also got to meet a lot of cool people. Thanx guys for a great weekend. Next trip is rocktober fest.

Miguel's rules! It was a great Labor Day weekend could only have been better if it rained less. Thanks for everything guys! Thanks greenspace for for vegging(literally) with me so I wasn't all alone. Thanks sportster for driving us everywhere and for not dropping me! Thanks mowz for letting me come along and for helping keep me awake on the drive home.

Awe, the Red was a great time. Thanx to all the peeps that we climbed with: Organic, Sportster, and Greenspace. Extra shout outs to Greenspace and Sportster for teaching me how to sport. Extra shout outs to Organic for pushing me to higher limits. And a much needed shout out to Miguel's Pizza for the great grub. Rocktoberfest is Oct. 11/12. Check out the thread titled summer parties. Greenspace, Coors does not suck. The weather was good at times but the rain only made it better cuz then we had something to complain about and to wash us when we couldn't shower. Sportster, let me and Organic know if you can get us those free passes and did you get that girls #? LOL. J/k. Orgo, VE on Wed still on? Ericka, VE on Wed? Ok, I'm MOWZ and I'm out like a fat kid in dodge ball. Laters.

Yikes well Oct. 11/12 that is the same weekend as the Chicago Marathon so you can pretty much count greenspace out and since my girlfriend is running in it you can "probably" count me out but we will see!!

Glad you guys had a great time, despite all the rain. Rocktoberfest is October 11-12 and will be really fun. Everyone should try to make it to the Red. There will be a lot going on that weekend. Who were the guys I met Friday night? I hope you guys had a good time and got lots of climbing in too. Sarah

I was wondering if anyone was there from this forum, and I think I met you guys at left flank in the rain, Chris and I had the same rope bag. But anyway, Jenlaka (?), Climbingspaz, Dancingmadlybackwards, neomagi, myself, and a bunch of other WI Adventure Rock employees had a great time despite the rain. Just so you all know there is a midwest gathering at Devils Lake WI on the 18-22 of Sept. We'll be at Green Valley Camp Ground here is the forum link. http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=462225#462225

There was some other people there from chicago, also so it might not have been us?!? We arrived at Miguel's saturday morning climbed on Military wall saturday morning and pistil ridge saturday afternoon. Then we donated our dry firewood, the only wood of such to the campfire and drank over on the picnic tables. We climbed at left flank on sunday, we climbed the two 5.8's and that 10a next to them. Don't know if we ever meet though... anyways yeah Chris the marathon is the 12th. I sooo hope I can make it to rocktoberfest!!!!!

Hey sportster, it's great that you guys let me in on the carpooling thing, since it involves me. Hehe. Greenspace, you should go climbing instead of the marathon. I haven't run in about 2 weeks now and I'm still fine. Oh well. Organic, did you make it to VE last night? I left at 5:30. I move to start a new thread titled "midwest chat" because this thread only seems to be relevant to RRG during Labor Day weekend. I'll start the chat and see where it goes.
