I dunno about after climbing (maybe pancakes), but nothing keeps me going all day like chunky peanut butter on raisin bread. The best part is that they're way easy to make - I just throw a little jar of PB and a loaf of bread in my bag and I'm good to go all day. Oh, and cheese :D

My partners and I usually hit up post climbing taco bell. If we had pre-climbing taco bell we either do wendys or 7-11. Usually we have pre-climbing wendys. The point: when I do something I'm proud of, I get a steak quesadilla with extra steak. Those things are really not worth the price but the mere thought of it makes my mouth water.

when climbing in the Gunks P&G's nachos with chili, fried calamari, a hot open roast beef sandwhich and a pint of Guiness or Honey Brown. P&G's isn't the in place with the climbers or the "I just turned 21" crowd and that suits me just fine. For the Daks if I'm climbing near Keene valley I hit cliff hanger for breakfast for a breakfast burrito. or the Downhill Grill in Placid for Fajitas and Saranac or margaritas. When on a budget Wendys always hits the spot. A large Chili or Taco Salad usually suit me nicely. I rarely eat fast food other then Wendys and Jacks but if I can find either after climbing I'm a happy camper (err, climber).

A glass of ultra-sugary lemonade and some milk fortified with whey protein. Technically, I guess that's actually drinking. As far as eating after climbing, it's all about the bean and chese burrito from Baja Fresh. :)

I think it depends on where you have climbed all day. Obviously if you've just finished climbing in the Red, you hit up Miguel's for a pizza with whatever your favorite topping is and a Pale 8. Then you head down across the country line to pick up some beer to brown bag back to the campsite. If I've just finished climbing at Pilot Mtn, Moore's, Sauratown in North Carolina then nothing beats El Terrero's Mexican place in Winston-Salem. If you in NC and climb at these places and haven't heard of this eatery it's off the University Parkway exit from 52. After climbing at the climbing wall here at UNC, then it's gotta be Cosmic Cantina for some chicken nachos or burrito. At the New the best apres climbing food we found one time was an all you can eat Chinese Buffet in the K-Mart shopping center. Man, we went to town on that place. They had crab legs on the bar that I rocked out. Ohhh....almost forgot my personal favorite. If I've climbed a long day at Crowder's Mtn...gotta head back to my hometown of Kings Mountain to the Yamato Express. Which is a fast-food Japanese Steakhouse. You know like the places where they cook the food in front of you, but about 6-7bucks cheaper. Ahh...and after climbing in or around Boone. There are quite a few possibilities. Macado's is alright, but not quite filling enough. But Cheese Burgers in Paradise in Blowing Rock was to die for after a long day at Ship Rock once. I didn't go with the biggest bacon cheeseburger but the size down was more than ample (3/4 pound burger!!!!!). Rumney, NH. We got some beta about a Italian place about 20min North. I forget the name of the town. But it's like the Italian Barn. Most anyone in town was able to point us in the right direction. Man it was crazy good and reasonable price (under 10bucks). Plus they had all you could eat bread sticks with different dipping sauces that we totally exploited. Manhattan. On a summer roadtrip we spent about 30min walking around the Central Park boulders. Then went and ate at Cosmic Cantina I forget exactly where it was...it was around the NYU and Washington Square area. But for general knowledge there are 3 Cosmics in the world (Chapel Hill, Durham and Manhattan). Discounts to UNC, Duke, NYU, Columbia... My point of listing off all this. Since everyone just seems to be saying ahh beer or fastfood. Share with us some of the little places that you have come across. Share with us the food BETA.

Well, while climbing I always have to have salt and vineger chips.. weird but the 1st time we went climbing outdoor, we took them, and ever since its been a tradition... other than that, any food that will last, since most of the time we are camping too!! so PB sandwiches, Gronala, etc!

California is a vast wasteland (yes, I know it's a beautiful state but it's still a wasteland of urban sprawl) but you guys have all the good fast food. In-N-Out Jacks Del Taco are a few of my favorites The only good place I can think of you don't have is White Castle. The bright side is because we don't have many interesting fast food chains in the Northeast I just don't eat fast food almost ever. I'd probably be about 300lbs if I lived in Cali.

Dude don't even bother with food recommendations in Manhattan. Basically if you can't find it in Manhattan it doesn't exist. The best food values are uptown between columbia and the GWB. Most tourist don't make it up there but the ethnic food variations are immense and the value is much better than the rest of Manhattan. That said there is good food scattered all over the city. Thats the one thing I miss about working in Manhattan and living in the metropolitan area is the food.

True no need to search far for food in Manhattan...the cool thing about Cosmic was that we have a Cosmic in Chapel Hill. So we had to find that place to eat while we were there. The point would still be though, if I wasn't from NY and was looking for somewhere "good" or recommended by other climbers this would be a good place to just name some places.

Toss-up: Steak asada burrito from Taco Express at Federal and Evans in Denver. Get the green salsa. It'll make a man outta you. BYOB, though. A buffalo burger from Hoffbrau at 12th and Santa Fe. Good beer selection... pick your poison. When I was in Georgia, it was always wings and beer at Taco Mac in the Virginia Highlands, chased down with a bottle of Sweetwater 420 beer.

Looking for good places in New Paltz. Tried one place next to R&I for a steak which was the pits (and expensive). The Greek place catty corner was okay but not as good as the middle eastern place that was there years ago. Sorta liked the place oposite the mountain deli for burger and a bear. Any recommendations?

In reply to: Looking for good places in New Paltz. Any recommendations? Read a few post back. I listed the better places in New Paltz (my opinion of course). I'm a creature of habbit but I've eaten at almost every major restaurant in town at least one meal over the last few years. They are all OK or even good but I usually migrate back to the old standbys.

Finally my turn to reply. SO I've read every post. First I'll say the PBJ while is right on. I'm a cook at a Mexican place. I always take burritos (chicken or fish usually) for my lunch while climbing. Afterwards, pizza always hits the spot. After a good day of climbing at Mokuleia, Oahu, on the way back to town, we sometimes stop at this place (right in Waialua, outside, after the funny intersection) where they make huli-huli chicken. It is essentially rotisserie chicken, and damn good. I can eat a whole one in less than 7 minutes.

PB&J's a classic, but I discovered Blue Chips by the Garden of Eatin' over the weekend in Baraboo... best chips ever. And then there's the usual Clif bar.

[quote="pico23"]In reply to: California is a vast wasteland ......... but you guys have all the good fast food. In-N-Out Jacks Del Taco are a few of my favorites Heino feels that Fatburger has been inappropriately left off this list. A King Burger with bacon while listening to the strains of Only the Lonely is the only way to go after a hard day climbing in certain priviledged western areas.
