Football is completely homoerotic. Climbing is...slightly less homoerotic.

Obviously you've never been to MY gym. :?

Let your friend be. There are enough 'climbers' as it is in this world. The pressure on our precious climbing spots are continuously on the increase, so in my opinion, we should encourage people to take up fotball/soccer/rugby instead.

Those stats you gave are fairly interesting phaedrus - one of the links in there gave the stats of climbing only having 3,104 injuries in 1999 out of 2.1 million participants (0.15% they says) which to me makes it a lot safer than football

P.S. You were perfectly right whoever said it... my last post was off-topic, it was trolling of a sort... i wanted to see everyones opinions on that. I actually prefer basketball to all types of footy and rugby over other footballs... But then again ive played almost every sport except football because im extremely lanky and fairly skinny so im kinda biased... still climbing and basketball are the only sports to hold my attention for very long at all. 8)

It is all how you look at it. If your friend looks at climbing as the "climb without gear or rope" style some commercials show- then first he is right on that, but who would truly do that? And if you win football game- woohoo! Big frickin' whoop. Climb a mountain you been workin' on- and you not only have gotten stronger, but can say you did it and all that.
But that is just me

i think your friend hit his head too many times and lost a few too many brain cells to come to a logical conclusion of climbing. it's not his fault, just let him be.

Off topic but on the money. Football is a fun sport to play without the padding and informally but watching an NFL game is brutally boring.
Rugby is a much tougher sport and it's more demanding of the athletes. It's a mess to watch but a great sport to play and ironically you see less injuries in a rugby match than a football game. I don't miss my damn ears getting brutalized though in the scrums rucks and mauls.
Sure football is fun to play without pads because you just run around tackling people like Rugby. It's probably boring to watch to you because you don't understand the rules and how technical the game actually is. Rugby's cool but you don't see too many 225lb guys running a 4.5 forty, having a twenty yard head start, and you having to tackle them!
I played football in college and there is a complete difference between the two games and to say one is tougher than the other is a joke. Go play at a competitive level with pads on, with people bigger than, and try to take them on at full speed so you can speak through experience.

Actually the most injury prone sport is, oddly enough, girls Cross Country. So step aside all you tough football and hockey players
ps:running is not heathly

no joke. i ran (boys) CC, and it was vicious. the girls, on the other hand, are murderous. i knew of incidents of messing each other up with spikes, shoving and all that jazz. what takes the cake is a friend of mine: her favorite tactic was to puke on other runners. yes, vomit.

I'll take a 40 ft screamer before I want someone to PUKE on me.

ps - american football is a joke. at least in real football (futbol), its true that a mistake can kill you (just ask Colombia's national team).

[quote:e344b5a6f2="dynoguy"]Cold Climb, climbing is not "an indescribable lifestyle", in fact that is the cheesiest thing I have ever heard  ! A lifestyle is the way you live(example: he has an austere lifestyle), climbing is something you do for recreation. Its not something you have to do. A diabetic has to take insulin everyday but that doesn't describe his or her lifestyle. Grow up![/quote:e344b5a6f2]

lifestyle isn't a real word. it's a martha stewart created word and it isn't useful in describing the reality of life...

cold climb is indeed cheesy, however.

"indescribable lifestyle"? cold climb, you are unknowably dumb.
