All, We are getting down to the wire and the weather is looking stellar! Keep you eyes on this message (I will be updating the lead message over the next few days...so please scan for changes) and thread for last minute details 1) We are meeting in the Trapps parking lot at 8:30 AM on Saturday. (Mitchal and I will be there early...look for the domesticated bovine and the wild cheetah). We will divide into groups and climb until dark. Directions to the Trapps lot: Follow 299 out of New Paltz until you come to a "T" in the road (interesection of 299 and 44/55. Take a right on 44/55 and follow past the hairpin turn, go under the bridge and begin looking for the parking lot on your right. (about 1/8 mile from bridge). Take a right into the parking lot. See map: http://newpaltz.hvnet.com/hikeclimb/mohkclmb.htm 2) Community dinner at the hostel Saturday night 7ish (menu: Appetizers: Chips and Dip/Mexican Beer. Main meal: spaghetti, meatballs, salad, garlic bread and brownies) 3) Community breakfast at the hostel on Sunday at 7AM 4) Meeting in the Trapps lot on Sunday at 8:00AM (so that we can park) 5) If you miss us in Trapps parking lot please check the bulletin boards we will leave messages as to where we are setting up top ropes etc. 6) if you would like to stay at the hostel and haven't already paid, call Craig directly (845)255-6676 and let him know that you are part of the PA gathering. There are still beds available. Craig does not accept checks, so bring cash or credit cards (for those of you that have not paid me directly). 7) Don't forget the $8 daily climbing fee (payable in cash to the rangers) Gail

In reply to: 3) Community breakfast at the hostel on Sunday at 8AM 4) Meeting in the Trapps lot on Sunday at 9:00AM 5) If you miss us in Trapps parking lot please check the bulletin boards we will leave messages as to where we are setting up top ropes etc. A suggestion: Meet earlier on Sunday if you want to get in at the Trapps lot. The weather this weekend is supposed to be gorgeous, and the Trapps lot will fill up before 9am (seen it happen). Or, have an alternate meeting place - maybe the Uberfall area, for those who have to park in the Warwasing Lot and take the Stairmaster. I will not be at the Trapps lot on Sunday - I will be setting up TRs on Sunday at PK, and will be going directly there (opens at 9am). There are routes for all levels of climber at PK, easy access to TR setting (bring extra webbing and static line), no crowds, and tons of excellent bouldering (or so I've seen and heard - a guidebook might be available at R&S). If I see you, great. T

Or, have an alternate meeting place - maybe the Uberfall area, for those who have to park in the Warwasing Lot and take the Stairmaster. T Tai is absolutely correct. You will not get a parking space in the West Trapps lot at 0900. You will be very lucky to get one at 0800, especially with the time change and the great weather. I second the Uberfall suggestion. You should probably supply directions to the Wawarsing lot and the Visitor Center lot (yes, the Wawarsing lot might be full by 0900 also) with details as to how to find the Stairmaster and the Uberfall. Sorry I''ll miss it, but I'll be thinking about y'all as I shred my tips on the JTree granite (oops, sorry, that's quartz monzonite). Tim

Thanks Tim and Taino for your suggestions. I think we should discuss the alternative climbing areas Saturday night at the community dinner. For now, I will change Sunday's meeting time to 8AM...Gail

I don't suppose this gathering is restricted just to PA climbers so what do you think to a Canadian straggler joining in? If it carries any weight I WAS going to climb with Anne last week in PA till things got messed up :( . It seems to be a pattern emerging here as my partner for a few days in the Red just bailed on me. He went and made the STOOPID mistake of getting a job  and they want him to actually work now. I still have to talk to another guy about the Red but I can drive to the Gunks on my own so.....?? Anyway if I go I will likely head down Friday afternoon and dirtbag at Camp Slime that evening, then take it from there. I would be into a group meal and some socializing and I will of course be bringing my rack if you are looking for someone to lead some climbs. Can you believe I haven't been to the Gunks this year  sheesh, so many places to climb, good job I don't work eh? And Anne, I promise not to solo TOO much, near you :P

I will have access to a computer, Saturday night; I'll post an update when I get home from the dinner. T

So, umm...opening a whole new can of worms here, but is there anyone around Philly that wants to Carpool? Doesn't make sense to waste gas if there's someone else around me that I can pick up on my way up there. K.

glen is coming...but he'll be up there early friday to visit (and stay) with family in the area. let me ask this: if we get there and find the hostel by 8, is there room for 3 more? I really don't want to just invite myself (and the other 2).... if not. no biggie. [Randy thinking to himself] I'm trying to do some. I'm planning to leave W.C. by 2:30. Up to Allentown by 4. And then up 78 to 278 to I-87. We should be there by 8. [/I'm done] Question: Given its a Friday night... where can I expect traffic to be bad (I know PA roads) but are 278 and I-87 gonna be bad? #2: From Allentown...is it better to take 78 or head North to get on I-80 or even I-84? randy

Randy the driving that Anne suggested is good, but if you can get to I-84 without too much hassel it is a beautiful drive and usually not much traffic at all. 84 will dump you onto the Thruway 1 exit south of New Paltz.

Leaverbiner...good luck at the comp! Emma will be taking photos, Max is competing and ex husband Brad is judging. Daugther Paige will be volunteering, but not sure whether it is judging or what. Poor planning on my part!

I believe its 8 AM. Better delete the mention of 8:30. randy

You can probably save yourself a few more minutes by taking I-84 E to Rt 208 North and follow that until you intersect Rt's 44/55 then head west, it'll drop you right in front of the Deli. And you won't have to pay a toll. Chris

FYI . . . the leaf chasers are still at the gunks in droves so be prepared for lots of traffic between the preserve and downtown! Plan any meeting times accordingly. Gail - I'm still nto sure if I am going to hit the Burn . . . the weather looks so amazing it would suck to be inside . . . we may go . . leslie usually does very well at comps and particularly the burn . . . I'll just be flailing around. . . may even set a few problems tomorrow night. Have fun at the Gunks . . . it was gorgeous last weekend and looks even better for this weekend.

Is anyone else staying at the multiple use campsite tonight? I will be heading up there after work. If you see a blue subaru wagon come on over and say hi. If you dont have a place to stay, you should head over that way, we can have ourselves a little halloween get together.tell scary stories around the campfire and such...maybe we can even make smores ;). Hope to see some of ya tonight.

Okay, here's how it's looking: A bunch of people are going to be at the Trapps/Nears; in fact, the majority will be - however, many people will be bouldering. There will be some people going to PK to climb. If you've never climbed there, you will need long webbing and static lines, and some pro - you can't anchor off the pine trees (it's worth a ticket and your day pass getting ripped up if you do). There is no multipitch - all singlepitch or TR. There is very good bouldering, so I've heard - I can point you in the general direction, but don't have any other beta. I will be there with a group, and cannot take anyone else; however, guidebooks are available at the Mountain Deli (at the 299/44/55 intersection) and at Rock & Snow for about $12. To my knowledge, Gail will be at the West Trapps lot at 8:30am. Be warned - I got to the lot today at 8:05, and it was already half full. T
