Well, we did it, we made it to the end of another year! Granted though, 2003 was not the easiest of years to deal with. Just watch any of the "Year in Review" specials shown on the news right about now and you'll wonder how we made it through at all. Yet, no matter what happened in the world, we all still went climbing. Rock Climbing as a sport persevered and grew. We all played a part in it, from the top-ranked sponsered pros to the kid who stepped foot onto rock for the first time. That is why we all have a right to look back and reflect on our own highlight moment from this year in climbing. Mine was an awesome three-day trip up to Rumney, one of my few outdoor escapes from the gyms and boulders of New York City. The weather was lovelly, the climbing great, and the climbers super-friendlly. I sent a 5.10 (I'm not a 5.10 climber, I only just sent one!), and the experiences and memories helped me to improve as a climber. That was mine, what was yours? Happy and Healthy New Year to all, jpearl

The realization that I finally want it bad enough to risk a (protected) fall, and the addictive feeling of just baaarrreeeellllyyy (and I mean barely) making a sketch move above trad gear. That and learning the basics of aid climbing, which has opened a whole new world. A whole new very very slow and painful world. -Kate.

i climbed to little to have a highlight    maybe when me and my partner only less than 1h of light left upon arrival to the crag. we made the 15min walk in 7min flat (swiched backpack enroute, mine was heavier due to gear), climbed 4 routes (i onsighted a 5.10c and climbed 5.9 in the dark). it was good.

completing the roof/overhang on my school's indoor wall... may not sound like much of a highlight to write home about, but it was the fact that i was the first to ever complete (besides one who doesn't go to our school) it in our school... the wall has been up for approximately 7 years so i was pretty proud... i think it was a redpoint which topped it off.. dc and i were working that route for a long time and finally we dialled it.. we named it Alumni or Crux 5

It sounds weird but trying and failing (2 or 3 times) to climb Redemption Crag near Crow Hill in Leominster, MA. What a great time and it gives me a goal. I will bust that climb out in 2004 no matter what! :x Mr. Mons

Progressing as fast as I did and having someone tell ME that I made it look easy. usually I'm the one in awe of someone else. I'm still a n00b though. =-)

Well so much fun stuff in 2003. Did the Prow of Washington Column in 9 hours bot to top, climbed S Face of Charolette Dome in King's Canyon while being off route for 2/3 of it and running it out 100' sometimes on 5.8 face, onsighted Thin Ice (10b) in Needles, onsighted 10c slab in Josh, and the best part was that I climbed about 95% of the weekends in 2003. Looking forward to some longer road trips in 2004 and doing the Nose in a push. TRADitionally yours, Cali Dirtbag

In the past few months I've met some great people from the site and climbed at lots of different places with them. It's been a blast and really helped me to become a stronger more well rounded climber.

Finishing my climbing gym in my house. Red pointing a 13b at 50, Soloing the east face and the humbolt ridge on the Grand Teton, climbing Elcap and halfdome in a day, each, with my friend from England. Overall, a great year, especially since I made it without any serious injuries!! Happy New Year and a safe 2004 to all here at rockclimbing .com
