Plea to admins,

Please don't delete Pete's stuff - if there is a plan to do this, please give warning so some of us can capture some of the key posts.

Pete is no longer a member of the site... If you have questions, then you have to ask Pete.

Ya bunch o' whiners. Serves ya right. This is part of the price you pay for a moderated site. Mind yourselves: you may be next.

Pete has contributed much over the past 2-3 years, so his place as #4 is accurate.

my $0.02 .. since i've met pete, and have learned a thing or two from him ..

As hard as it is to say .. pete brought this upon himself.

I met pete last spring, and have been friends with him since. His information on this board is not always the best way (or even a good way) to do something on a wall, but then again, its "a way" of doing something, pete himself has posted that "His way" is a smorgasboard, take what you want, leave what you dont. -- and you cant argue with his record .. he has 20+ ascents of the big stone (as slow as they may have been .. its not a race) .. so he must know something.

I like that he shares his information for a small price. (that price being that you have to wade through all the ptpp non-sense to get to the nugget in the post.) -- and that his information is available for all to see, many times on this board, you have to have credentials before people will share information with you -- (mostly because they are afraid you'll kill yourself -- valid) .. imagine my situation when i decided i wanted to learn solo aiding last summer, -- i had 8 months total climbing experience, and 6 months of lead expeience .. if i had told anyone that i wanted to learn solo aiding so i could do el capitan 3 months later, i would have been laughed out of the aid forum .. (umm -- come to think of it .. i got plenty of jabs coming my way for wanting to aid the tower) .. pete will help out anyone that asks (whatever his ulterior motive for helping is not important)

I'd hope that anyone who reads the internet for aid information has enough sense in them to think things through and test things in a non-fatal environment prior to deciding that its the way to do things.

I think pete has a good heart, and the fact that his posts are stlll online shows that he's more interested in sharing his info than being petty over being banned. (i'm hoping that the admin's gave him the option to remove his articles) .. of course maybe its just driven by ego of keeping ptpp persona alive .. but so what.

his way with women leaves almost everyone a bit queezy, i can tolerate it because i'm not a woman (so he's not humping my leg at the camp5 parking lot), and because i've not seen him do something totally inappropiate. But at the same time, if i had a girlfriend (or a just brought a friend who was female), i would warn them about his approach (huge come'ons) before they met him.

.. but not everyone dislikes his approach, i've seen lots of women react positively to pete.

those that hate pete on this board, i hope you guys find a way to forgive him, not because it will do anything for pete, but for yourselves.

Wow.

Great thought. I have no opinion on Pete, but it will help in other areas of life outside this board, for me.

Thank you.

To the "bring him back" crowd:

Sounds like most of you have never even been around Pete in person. I guarantee you that the majority of those who called for him to go have been around him in real life. He was not banned for arbitrary or baseless causes. If you want a little more insight, do some searches. There are plenty of threads on this site with more details (yes, the sheep will say hearsay, or anonymous accusations, but some of us know better having witnesses similar incidents first hand)

If you want to interact with him, e-mail him. I'm sure he'd be happy to correspond with his supporters. Nobody shut down his e-mail or internet access as far as I know, and you could probably IM him too if you're into that. I don't have his contact info (nor do I want it), but I'm sure if you asked, someone on this site would pm it to you.

Even Diesel Toke and Ricky Ricardo, guys who've climbed with him or been mentored by him have said he brought it on himself and he spews alot of bs. These guys at one time fell into the total supporter category. You do the math.

i'm a bit disgusted by all of this. if the admins think pete was so horrible (and that his posts were so offensive) to warrent banning him, doesn't it stand to reason that his posts (whose content supposedly caused the banning) should all be deleted? it seems very hipocrytical for the admins to ban pete but keep his posts for everyone to use. if he was so bad, shouldn't we get rid of his posts so no one else is offended by them?

another thing i think i should point out is that, in the latest battle before pete left, he actually came out on top. some of u may remember the 2 antagonizing threads about pete and his womanizing (i believe copperhead started them?)? the admins (Tim especially) reluctantly sided with pete - the consensus among them was "Pete did stuff that was wrong i the past and was dealt with - there is no evidence of any recent violations and no retroactive action will be taked now against past infractions"

...and then they ban him?

Pete and I have had a mutual agreement that he would take an indefinite leave of absence from Rockclimbing.com. The details are private and I don't know of any TOS that requires us to release to the public why we did this. The bottom line is that Pete is still around, still able to view information, and has been encouraged (by me) to continue to write and maybe even start a website of his own. Personally, I like his contributions and it was very hard for me to make this decision with Pete. Sure he rubs a lot of (maybe most) people the wrong way, but the reality is that he knew a lot about what he did and was a distinct flare of color in a world of black and white. I have wished him the best and hope he continues to have a successful and budding career.

We agreed to leave all of his content on the site for "posterity sake" and we hope you will enjoy it. As for getting more of Dr. Piton and his "wee-wee" the crab wall, you can still send messages to Dr. Piton @ Rock & Ice or try to contact him directly. I am sure he will be glad to send back a 4 or 5 chapter email back to you. He's never been shy or out of words. ;)

I hope this is enough information, since I don't really feel comfortable sharing anymore. BTW, just in case anyone wants to know. I made final decision after about 3+ months of extensive research and consultation. And all mods, editors, and administrators knew about my decision before it was made. Nothing here was done rashly, by only one or two people, or without proper notification of appropriate parties (sorry I didn't consider 50,000 people per day as part of the appropriate parties on this one).

In reply to:
It was a joke.

The point being, maybe we took some of Pete's obnoxious ways just a bit too seriously?

As someone else noted, I believe the site has the features for those wishing no contact from or viewing of his material to block it.

I did the Prow with Pete last May. I would climb again with Pete anytime.

Pete has his quarks (don't we all) but he has a good heart.

More to the point, for better or worse, the majority of what I know about aid - came from Pete and this site. I for one am grateful for the ton's of time and effort that he was willing to spend with a non-female gumby like me.

Someone saying - just go to John Longs Big Walls and learn it - yea, right

Chad

Chad...i couldn't have said it better

i LOVE that picture of Pete

.. umm .. i'm still a pete supporter .. :-)

no doubt that i would have walked away from yose licking my wound in september if i hadn't met pete ..

but like trevor said, his banning has nothing to do with his aid skills .. thanks for writing something about this trevor ..

I don't really care if he's here or not.
But it is nice to be able to see a good post by another user- Take copperheads post on making- well pretty much everything!- Buried or hijacked by Pete so he could be "the only one that knew anything". He defiantly caused some people to leave or post less- and I'm talking ablout some folks you could havew learned alot from.
Are we better with or without him? I don't know...nor do I care.
BUT i do know at least 2 women from this site who he sent NASTY photo's of himself- and They weren't the soloing one. That is not right.
