In reply to: I do have to draw the line with "paintball," though. Not only is paintball not a verb, but it is not a sport, much less an extreme sport. Not only is paintball a verb (i.e. We paintballed his car.), but the sport kicks ass.

OK, I'll give you transitive verb, as in, "We paintballed his car," but intransitive verb, as in, "We paintballed yesterday," is right out. And, sorry, but if paintball is a sport, then so is tag. You're It!!!!!11 -Jay

Tradiciously speaking, tradding is more appropriate than trad when used by traddites in its traditional form a conveying the tradly action of 'trad' climbing. 'Sport' as a verb, on the other hand, is just plain silly... C'mon, this grammar stuff is easy, didn't any of you watch your schoolhouse rock? What the hell is the function of a conjunction junction anyway?

In reply to: In reply to: In reply to: can one actually trad? ....saw a comment saying "i love to trad". hmmm No, it isn't allowed--even for people in the USA--to verb the word trad. This is an area where sport climbing has an advantage, as "sport" was already a verb. I gave up on this fight a long time ago. I now proudly trad. I do have to draw the line with "paintball," though. Not only is paintball not a verb, but it is not a sport, much less an extreme sport. -Jay No, paintball is something you do. It's an expansion of shooting guns with your pals. With paintball guns, you can shoot your pals and they don't die, so you can get drunk and play paintball again. When friends of mine and I would go do that, it invariably involved beer, campfires, and a lot of drinking port until 3 AM near Seguin, Texas. Good times. And I've heard a girl I know use trad as a verb, as in, "No, we don't trad." She trad climbs now however, and well.

No, it is not a verb. To say that there must be a distinction implies that there is another type of rock climbing that is a valid persuit. And we all know that is not true. Bouldering is something you do after climbing. And clipping closely spaced bolts on generic face routes is just plain foolish. TRADitionally yours, Cali Dirtbag

In reply to: One could say, "I trad," I suppose, though I've never heard it. You'll rarely hear "I trad" because trad climbers don't say "I trad." That is, trads don't trad. You are more likely to hear [in hushed tones] "He trads" from your local neighborhood gymbie. -Jay
