"Climbing would be a great, truly wonderful sport if it wasn't for all this damn climbing..." I forget who said it; I think a Brit.

There's a book I bought a while back called "The Quotable Climber." It's edited by Jonathan Waterman and published by Lyons Press if anyone wants to pick it up. It's organized into sections about various aspects of climbing. It has some great quotes including a couple of the ones above. Here are a couple of my favorites: "Biscuit. I almost had it." -The ever-reverent Tobin Sorenson, after narrowly missing a hold and slamming into a wall during a long leader fall. "It's a person's attitude toward life that is important, not whether they're in a wheelchair or not." -Mark Wellman, who climbed El Cap and Half Dome after being paralyzed in a climbing accident. "I'm not sensitive about my accidents, I'm sensitive about being a bad or foolish climber. Apart from the avalanche and the ice climbing thing-those were my fault-the others were not my fault." -Joe Simpson, master of accident epics. "New things are done by simply trying them again and again and again until one succeeds." -John Stannard, on introducing 5.11 to the East Coast with Foops (at the Gunks). These are directly from the book. I take absolutely no credit for them. Colin

If your looking for Climbing Quotes go here. A few that I liked that i got off of there:
In reply to: If you can hit it while falling down, you can use it while climbing up." — Andy's Rule of thumb for climbing vegetation. In reply to: Q: What's the difference between a bad golfer and a bad climber ? A: A bad golfer sounds like this: "Whack... Damn!" A bad climber sounds like this: "Damn... Whack!" In reply to: "If it weren't for egos, some of the greatest accomplishements of climbing would never have happened." — Michael Kennedy. In reply to: He who remains calm while those around him panics probably doesn't know what is going on." Ok just check out the page for your self.

Dammit - I've just finished reading the Beckoning Silence by Joe Simpson and it was full of good quotes. But I can't remember any of them. so: "Make the clip or take the fall" - Alexis (AFAIK) "I'll just climb one more route before I go home .... when my arms stop shaking" - me. "You are the most important person in the world to me and I love you very much.... don't drop me" - several hundred climbers to their belayers, daily.

In reply to: "you don't die from the fall, you die from hitting the ground" It's not the fall that kills you... it's the sudden stop at the end !!! My personal favorite climbing bumper sticker is simple Sport climbing is neither

In reply to: The greatest climber in the world is the one who has the most fun. -alex lowe It doesn't have to be fun to be fun. -barry blanchard one of my partners and i changed the first on a bit: "The greatest climber in the world is the one who feels the coolest." this came from setting/climbing some fairly easy but cool looking/feeling problems. we liked 'em

In reply to: up! UP! Always Up! unknown this is a line from a tom patey story entitled "a short walk with whillans", about an aborted attempt on the 1938 route on the eiger. it's attributed two two japanese climbers who sat out the blizzard that bailed patey and whillans. FUNNY story, read it.
