I started a small service business specifically with the intention of growing it to a place where I would hire someone to manage it - so I would have the income and free time to travel..... My business is companion animal care (dog walking/cat sitting), and because of my location (NYC), the demand is particularly high. I provide excellent service, so we keep growing, and I look for employees that I feel will be capable of handling management aspects as we grow.

In reply to: In reply to: i'm about to graduate from college with a degree in camping/rec and i'm looking for a job in environmental ed. wow, a degree in camping...what's the curriculum like? i'm a writer for an advertising agency....graduated with a BS in English Lit/Writing. Hey hstewart, I'm in the same field - I work for an agency as a PR person (not quite a full-fledged creative writer but aspects of my job involve writing). Where are you located? I'm in WI and trying to head out to CO...seems to be a bit difficult to get a job there while I'm here. :) But I'll find a way. Good luck to you! So many ladies in so many fields, that's terrific! :)

Multi career girl here. Can't quite figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Communications/electronics maint, Communications installation engineer, Licensed vet tech, Ranch owner, former business owner, have served 12 years in the military, soon to be back in full-time. Going back into the electronics field as a warrant officer in the Army sometime this summer. It provides a great retirement, pay, bennies and more free time than I have now in vet med.

I'm a freelance musician (pianist). I finished my Masters last May and am preparing to enter a DMA program next year (which means I will be moving away from beautiful Boulder, Colorado...OH, NO!) Meanwhile, I teach private lessons and play tons of weddings and performances around town and try to enter as many competitions as possible...it's rough because the income can be inconsistent but I have a lot of flexibility in my schedule (making it easier to climb!).

Bartender..... I'm up til 6am almost every night. Climbing trips are my chance to restore some healthy sleep and eating patterns to my life that get totally out of control when you're working in a bar. I'll be going back to school in the fall to study History though. Deirdre

I am a Forestry major at the University of Kentucky. I work during the summer doing field work and helping with research for the forestry dept. at school. So it's a lot of hard work outside, but I love it. One summer soon I'm hoping to get on a fire crew with the Forest Service and work out west fighting fires. What I love about it is I get to be outside alot and I still have time to climb because I don't have to work weekends.

Nope, I'm a part-time field biologist, part time desk jockey for the Feds. I have an undergrad degree in biology and I'm contemplating going to vet school. In my spare time, I coach gymnastics, play ice hockey, play with my ferrets, and plot to take over the world. Weekends are for the outdoorsy stuff; hiking, camping, biking, kayaking, and hopefully more climbing.
In reply to: Wow! It appears that I am the only field biologist here.

Jeez... everybody's got such interesting jobs/careers! I'm a pediatric audiologist who got burned out with the 9 to 5 (really the 8 to 7) thing. So I decided to head back to school for doctorates in audiology and neuroscience in beautiful Boulder. My hope is to become a professor and move to Australia or New Zealand.... School definitely allows for much more play than the real world did! :D

I work for the Division of Youth and Family Services in NJ.... kinda like Child Protective Services in other states. We investigate allegations of child abuse and neglect, I follow the cases all the way through their heart wrentching endings.... I spend my weekends outdoors, lately mostly climbing at the Gunks. I'm looking for a new job that won't consume my life and emotions as much as mine does now ....Ideally involoving animal rescue or environmental protection though I know that's a long shot.

It might be too late to join this discussion but I'm new to the site. I am a full time mom to a 2 year old boy, a wife and a research library technician part time. Somehow despite all of this I find the time to climb as well as other sports. Guess I'm either really lucky or really organized! (Actually, I'm just really lucky!)

what an interesting question . . . and it's so true about the climber boys and their engineering/comp sci backgrounds (more than half the guys i climb with are engineers) i'm a risk manager - for some reason many of my peers think that my profession and climbing are dichotomous . . . quite the contrary, i believe. i work for an int'l mining & metallurgical company (so work primarily with men) and find it exceptionally interesting majored in sociology, double minored in english/history . . . an artsie through and through but also numerate vk

I am a firefighter paramedic. I love my job. My primary climbing partner is another medic from my department. Just to add to the confusion of what has already been posted in response to your question. . . I majored in microbiology in college. I traded in my pre-med ideas for a life of fun in the fire service.
