less popular is poway crags, which you'd love if you like 5.10 and over sport. also, the longest, best trad line in san diego is there, "godzilla."

On the whole I agree with your post. But this raised an eyebrow. I'll take your word that it's a quality route, but it's only a pitch long. How are you defining "San Diego"?

I hear corte madera has some pretty good multi pitch trad lines.

Can't believe no one mentioned Santee Boulders. Great, technical bouldering, some sport/aid, and maybe a few trad lines, not totally sure. Most of it is pretty crimpy, with not alot of big features on the rock, but definitly a good challenge. You can grab an excellent guide on the site you posted.

Other than that, I personally like Mission George, some will think it's not as great, but some good trad there. I dont trad climb but the people I know that do say its pretty decent. I have TR'ed some of the cracks and they are good. Some of the bouldering there is good as well, it just sometimes takes a while to find.

Obviously though, if you are looking for the really good climbing, your best bet is Josh or Idywilde, both within 2-2.5 hours of SD. The climbing is exponentially better there than in SD.

Lastly, dont rule out backcountry exploring, especially in the Julian/Cuyamaca/Borrego area. Some good bouldering to be had with a little searching ;)

If you think Santee is that great you need to get to more bouldering spots. It's sharp, polished and almost entirely low angle. Technical it is, it'll help your slab climbing alot, but I peronally find that it gets kinda old fast. It has, AFAIK, one aid line and one bolted route and no gear leads. I am probably wrong on the exact number but if so it's by maybe one or two "routes."

Mission Gorge is much better, it has it's detractors and proponents, but at least it has a good variety of routes (sport and trad) of various grades and lengths (mostly vertical, a couple of routes feature small roofs).

I think mission is a good place to climb, but i only go there if i have a limited time to climb. If your up for exploring some bouldering i think mcain valley is great. Not much bata, but if you walk around a little there are millions of boulders. Also if your only visiting I think corta medera (sp?) and valley of the moon are good places to visit at least once. There are not a great amount of climbs in those areas, but there are some very interesting ones for sure.

Never been to rainbow, but if anyone from sd wants to take me, i'd supply the after boulder beer!! It's worth a shot!

Yeah, where is this rainbow place? How can one get an invitation to climb there?
