Are we talkin rock? About a month this year but still on the ice and in the mountains. Plus the 9 hour drive to Moab is not too far. I may be the only person on this site who wishes it was Jan. Ski freaked man. Oud.

I once didnt climb for three months. Wouldnt reccommend taking a break for that long unless you have to. It sucked, and Im not going to do that again.

climbed indoor for two years in high school, then stopped for my first two years of college. My college opened a gym so I had no excuse to be a couch potato. Getting back everything I lost took at least 8 months. It sucked, wouldn't recommend it.

Two weeks of hell watching my buddies climb, and doing some belaying at crags. Felt like a lost puppy watching them do longer routes. I broke my thumb, but had a brace that would make the best "cast jams", but it took me two weeks to find out that I could still climb, just not as hard.

Climbed for about 6 years full time then took about 3 years off. Climbed another 6 months then took another couple years off. climbed another year then took the last year off. Started climbing again. It'll last a little while then I'll probably take a few more years off. So in the 15 years I've been climbing I've had about 6 of those years off at least. I don't really miss it or anything as I usually have a lot to do and other interests, but I always end up back.

I had stopped for almost two years, started again two months ago. I'm struggling to get back in the shape I was, and beyond. But I think I've started again for good this time. I have a much better attittude and approach to the sport than I use to have. It's the most important thing, a positive attitude.

I took a few months off once when I impaled my left leg on a metal fence. I took a few months off once when I broke my right leg and ankle, bouldering. Im currently taking a few months off due to fracturing my right shoulder, playing (of all things) cricket. Not happy.

I usually race bikes full time in the summer. At my level (spray) I can't take time off or I'll get whipped (by my team director and people I'm racing). I usually don't climb May-August. I figure I can race now, I can climb my whole life.

In the Fall of 2002, I had to take a full year off for medical reasons. Last Fall, I was able to climb and decided to do so, only to break my ankle and have a pin put in. I've been a few times in the gym this Spring, but still a little sore. This year should be a lot of fun!

In reply to: Guess its not like riding a bike But it is. Starting back after 9 years I was soooo frustrated by knowing how to do a certain move and just lacking the physical strength to do it. I used to say that climbing was mostly technique and not strength, but the truth is, it requires both. Rob

I haven't touched rock since November. I did get one day of ice in this season. 56 days of snowboarding so far. If all goes well, I'll be back on the rock in the next two weeks.

Winter is not a problem in Florida. The problem is that there are no rocks to climb here. I was able to get to crags in Georgia and Tennessee in November, December, February, and March. Welcome, Spring!

Five months, after opperation on my wrist. It sucked, a lot. Worst thing was, having nothing better to do, I still ended up at the local climbing wall watching other people and feeling miserable! All better now, climbing again after so long was great. I get grumpy if I climb less than twice a week now!

About 6 months. I really scared myself on High Exposure and couldn't bring myself to go more than a couple of steps above the ground for a while.

I stopped climbing for the last 6 weeks. I've been unemployed, and can't spare the cash for the gas money, or the monthly at the gym. Paycheck is heading my way in another 12 days.... lemmie tell ya, it has been horrible. I hate being unemployed, but I hate not being able to climb even more.

6 months. Decided to move back to the city and start a career- something about hitting thirty and getting a bit anxious. Didn't get a single day climbing in six months-- and realized I'd either have to forget about climbing altogether, or quit my job, and move back to the mountains. So, I quit my job and moved back to the mountains. Not a tough choice.

Well I left Washington State in July of 2001, so about 4 1/2 years :( and definately not by choice, by location and distance to good spots, and lack of enough time to go climb of any frequency, I've probably made it out on the crags about 5 times in this period :( BUT in a week i'll be living in Mesa, Arizona :) good climbing a quick walk away WOOHOO!

....a bit more than two years, after my first six years of climbing. I was at a climbing peak just before the break and, since I scuba dived constantly for the first six months, became streamlined like a fish.... lost a lot of strength.... It's taken another four years to get back to where I was.... but life changes.... priorities change.... Can't just climb like I used to be able to do.... the important thing is, no matter what happens, climbing is always there and the enjoyment remains whether it's been six months or six hours....
