Im not going to talk forever about nothing, or try to reason.
trad is the best because it is real climbing.
As chouinard said "Sport climbing and bouldering are not really climbing because they do not involve risk."
i dont agree with the exact meaning that bouldering and sport climbing arent climbing, but trad is pure climbing

yeah, i forgot to mention the bling-bling.
its hard to impress people when they ask about climbing when you just say: "i clip these to bolts in the rock". Its really easy to impress when you show them a #7 BD stopper and say, "I fell 25 ft and this is the only thing that prevented me from splatting into the ground." Or, show them a tri-cam ... they work by fairy dust. Or, show them a cam, they work by magic. Troll-magic powers sliding nuts. Big bros work on a graduate engineering thesis's hypothesis (you know, less than a law is a theory, less than a theory is a hypothesis). The reason cams work is a theory, not even a law, i believe.

all i need are some gold-plated camalots. and spinners, lots of spinners. and some neon lights on my rack ... and a stereo that bounces. bling bling.

I climb in a speedo and lube my cheeks.
The light bounces better off my cheeks when climbing cracks. This is why I prefer trad.

actually, i'm currently upgrading my rack from a light trad rack to a light/medium aid rack (or a monster trad rack, however you want to call it), so yeah, some of it is still shiny. :)
course, i'm proud to say that all of my original rack is nicely dull and battered.
i really need to get outside and scuff the rest of my stuff up! clip it to the back of the truck for the drive out there. :twisted:

Hey, let me tell you about my mother......I mean my Catholic guilt.
Be-jesus I was nearly enrolled in a Jesuit seminary. Which could explain why I never actually reached manhood.
5 years as an altar boy and 7 as a choirboy scarred me 4lyfe. But I did get to sing in some wonderful English cathedrals.

I enjoy the Chess Game that is Trad... Not only the physical parts of climbing, but the keen eye to place good pro, and the stones needed to climb far above it if needed yet still keep it all together.

Easy answer.
When you get to the top trad, you know for sure that YOU did the climb. You didn't have a top rope or bolts as crutches. Just you, the rock, and of course as many toys as you can afford!
Now I'm not diss'in TR or sport, they both have their place. But the personal satisfaction just doesn't compare, not even close.

I've got you both beat: French/Irish Catholic. I can run guilt-rings around you. Also, 13 years taught by nuns and priests, and still came away anally unscathed. I swear!
For trad, it's setting up that final anchor on a climb, especially one that gives you the shakes, and bringing up your partner. The 10 minutes reflection afterward, keeping your wits about you as you Class 4 descend or rap off and, if time permits, setting up for another climb. If not, it's off for a beer.

Sport is inherently safe, and can be made dangerous only by ignorance, recklessness and stupidity.
Bouldering is hoora good (Campbeltown expression), especially highball, scares me sh*tless but I still do it.
Free soloing is the scariest, sometimes I do that, but usually only by accident, you know, going scrambling, and getting off route, could happen to anyone, quite character-building. :twisted:

I also have to say that as my focus shifts from climbing the absolute most extremely difficult things I can yank myself up to the adventure of it all, I have moved away from sport climbing and into trad. The hardest thing I've climbed this year would have been a warmup (on bolts) when I was at my strongest, but I just get more out of it. When I'm driving home now, I feel a greater sense of personal satisfaction and accomplishment. I believe it comes from knowing that I was completely responsible for my protection and my safety up there. My head was just as (if not more) responsible for success than were my muscles.
