Trying to decide where we want to travel to next year. We'll have 2 weeks and we want to climb in an awesome area: where would you go?

Yosemite? I spent a week there at the beginning of august and it was awesome. Definitely all it is hyped up to be and more. Lots a great climbing and a lot of things to do on your rest days. If you've never been there before, I would strongly recommend it. Cheers, Raymond

I would fly to Vegas, rent a car, and stay and climb in red rocks for 2 or 3 days. Then head to Flagstaff (3 hours from Vegas) and climb at paradise forks for 3 or 4 days,(you can top rope almost every route there(if needed)). Once you've got the spliters a little bit dialed, head to Indian Creek for the rest of the trip,(awesome place for rest days as well;petrogliphs everywhere). If you're looking to only sport climb and boulder, still start in vegas but then head to Bishop and climb at owens and the buttermilks,(also 3 hours from Vegas). Awesome trip either way.

If you're wanting to come to Australia, but you only have two weeks, forget it!... Wait till you have at least a month if not three... there's too much to see and do... you could spend a month in the Grampians alone and still only climb 10% the routes there... add Arapiles and there's two more weeks....

Without a doubt CALIFORNIA ! a climbers paradise. Do I need to list all the fantastic places, the great weather, the desert climbing, the high sierra. Sport, trad, alpine. I don't live there but I take a climbing vacation there every year. I am pretty sure I would not like to actually live there, but I'm in love with the climbing it has to offer.

If I could climb anywhere.... Patagonia or Baffin Island. Pretty vague question if you are looking for real feedback, dude. If you want helpful answers, you should include things like your budget and specific type of climbing and skill level. Of course if you are rich, then you can scrap the budget thing then just ask for best locations for a specific discipline.

Locally- without a doubt Squamish. It has every form of climbing you could want, and all of it is quality with a GREAT camping scene. Far away- Thailand.... make sure you see a "pingpong" show while you're over there

Ben87 beat me to it - go to Sydney, get on the train for Katoomba (1.5 hours due west) you are on a route in two hours from the opera house with so much unclimbed rock in sight your head will explode...

Hey thanks for all the info, I'd love to head out to Australia, but I guess this time, we're planning on staying in the states or Canada. All different types of climbing - trad, bouldering, toprope stuff - would be great. We are saving up, so we can fly out and rent a car to get wherever it may be - so pretty good budget. We can go anytime from the late spring to the fall, doesn't matter. That'll depend on where we decide to head to. Went to LCC this summer - that was amazing!

In reply to: Lofoten, Norway During summertime this is a very good choise. Midnight sun and very beautiful scenery. Climbing is mainly long trad on granite. Some sport, too, but not much.

Yosemite Valley. Nothing else compares. I've climbed more in the valley than anywhere else even though there is amazing climbing closer to me. I'm going for 9 days in 2 weeks. :D Your jaw will drop, your dick will get hard, and you'll never want to leave. On second thought it sucks, too crowded, everyone go somewhere else.

Well then, without a doubt the answer is Squamish. If you go in late July or early August you'll probably have beautiful weather every day. Great camping, incredible bouldering, great sport at Cheakamus and Murrin, and of course amazing crack climbing. Another plus is that the cracks aren't polished or wide/flaring/funky like the Valley can often be. For non-climbing days there are glaciers, great lakes (including the notorious Brohm Lake rope swing), and Vancouver has to be the coolest city in North America.
