TR: Berthoud Pass Sunday 10/3. It sucked... Actually looks like I just missed good turns by a day. There were tracks that were now dirt on the west side front face. Bummer :? wish I didn't have to work on Saturday. The east side of the pass is all torn up. I don't know if they are trying to remove/add plumbing to the pass before they tear down the old lodge. It's a real mess and if it stays that way for the winter, parking is going to be a bitch. Hiking on the east side is also limited from the this construction. It looks like they are buidling and underground parking lot for a hotel or something.

I was up at Devil's Head yesterday and Pike's Peak looked absolutely covered with snow. Next time it's wet in the state, I am going to go look for some turns. Who's in?

I skied up on Bierdstat from Guanella Pass on 10/9, found great snow in the north facing bowl from about 13,600-12,200. I was able to ski back almost to the pass on not so great snow. From the looks of it it should be really good again this weekend.

I would prefer hike to turns. Does anyone have any plans. This is the time of year where I try to figure out if I want to climb or slide...

Anyone want to hit the backcountry in Butler Gulch on Thursday? I caught this trip report on the Telemark talk forum. Looks pretty sweet and we are supposed to get more snow. Looks like Beacons, shovels, probe, basic avy gear will be needed.

Friday night I went up to Jones Pass, just outside of Empire. I hiked up to the top of the Divide and headed across the Peaks towrds Henderson Lake. There is a ton of snow on thos peaks! My ice axe was burried to the top in some spots. Not much sno on top of the Divide itself but I can only imagine that you skiiers and boarders would dig carving turns down the peaks.

Allright, Butler Gulch fizzled on Thursday, since the big "storm" has been delayed. I am now planning to give it a go on Sunday. Sounds like Skibs is in, anyone else? It'll be the best dang mud riding ever!!!

anyone been up to Loveland since it opened last week. What's the word on conditions. I know it isn't going to be great, but I wonder if it's worth trying to get a few turns in this weekend.

We were up at Loveland last Sunday and hiked up to the small peak above the pass. Some snowboarders were hitching up to the top, so we gave them a lift. The ski lift right off of 6 was running and tons of people were doing that slope. The free slope where the snowboarders were hopping on at the pass looked OK. Over in the basin above that were some little jumps someone built. Looks pretty fun. It no doubt snowed more since we were there. We saw snow falling on the ridge over from that.

Skibabeage and myself, made it up to Butler Gulch yesterday. Still pretty much dirt at snowmobile parking area. The snow started filling in quickly as you start up the trail to Butler Gulch. There was about 2-3 feet of snow back there in general. A little toothy in spots but in general great turns were had. No core shots on my board, which is pretty amazing for October turns. A great first day out all and all.
