Name: JR Dill (like the pickles) Age: 24 Location: Houston Area, TX Just started indoor Trad: I have no idea what these three things mean! Sport: Aid: fav. food: I love all sorts of food. Mostly gigantic burritos level (lead climbed): super beginner gear (basic, some, full rack and rope): Umm I will have shoes tomorrow! fav. website: www.last.fm weird fact about yourself: I can pick my nose with my tongue. random comment: Compressed charcoal is messy. Yeah I'm incredibly new to climbing. I've been encouraged to all throughout high school and college but never gave in as I'm a little afraid of heights. This past weekend I was pretty much forced into it... and had the time of my life! I'm not in the greatest shape as I am a lazy college student so this feels like a great workout that I will enjoy. I'm going to buy my first shoes and other stuff tomorrow . My school has a huge climbing wall and I'm pretty hyped about doing some bouldering! Any advice for a complete newbie who has no real experience?

Here's some advice - get out as much as possible, and push yourself hard. The relaxed, I'll climb later attitude will leave a craving in your heart and a bad taste in your mouth. Get the freedom of the hills (probably to best climbing/mountaineering book out there) and read it cover to cover. Be driven and proud of your climbing, but be modest and friendly in your interactions. No one likes a douchebag, even one who climbs 5.13.

Keep any of the nigiri, never rocked my boat, but if miso or tempura soba feature anywhere on the menu, I'm f*cking in.
