Nice Jklinke. Were those taken up in the park or down lower towards town?

BTW, what time did you get stuck? We passed through around 7-8 am.

Cheers,

Crotch

Crotch,

Those are taken on the way out from Onaga Rd. The pictures are in my profile with descriptions.

We saw a long line of cars leaving the park around 8 AM when we got stuck behind a girl in a Jaguar. She couldn't make the last uphill section to the main road, so Brian tried to push her uphill with his 4WD. That worked fine until he spun out into the ditch. We called a tow truck to get him out, but the driver said he couldn't get to us without a 4WD. Luckily, we were able to organize a shovel and just dig him out. Another couple who had camped at Onaga came later and with four people we were able to push the Jag all the way to Quail Springs road. No climbing that day, but we sure got our exercise.

I'll be spending Thanksgiving @ my parent's house in Palm Desert leaving Wed. The house is 20 min. away from the Geology Rd. entrance and I will head early Thus. morn. to reserve a spot and check out the conditions. I will try to post an update as early as I can (hopefully w/ pics.) for those of you who are considering heading down there.

I, too, am planning on spending the weekend in JTree with two friends. I called the Park this afternoon, and they said everything was melting fast. So all might be well... snow really can't stay on the ground very long down there, right? Please, someone correct me if I am wrong.

I've spent a fair amountof time online and on the phone tonight looking for "current conditions" that include what is or isn't on the ground right now... to no avail. Anyone with some local beta?

Here's a link that might be helpful until we hear back from someone who has driven into the Park:

http://www2.nature.nps.gov/...jotrcam/jotr_arc.cfm

Once it loads, Click on 2004, then November; you can click on Cam shots from each date to see the progress of the snow melting off Belle Mountain.

I just got back from JTree last night. I was out there on Monday and Tuesday. Monday was cold and windy and still pretty snowy, but Tuesday was sunny and warmer. We were camped at Jumbo Rocks and there were only a couple of inches left of snow when I left the campground late-morning.

In the Western sections of the Park, like Hidden Valley, there must have been more snow because we had to trudge through 6 inches of it some places to get to climbs. The main roads though are very clear and the dirt roads are passable, but muddy and snowy.

I'm guessing another day or two of warm, sunny weather and most of the snow will be gone. At least that snow that would prevent you from getting to the campgrounds and nearby climbs. For climbs more off the road, you may want to make sure you have good boots.
