Climbed kaufman - cardon. Hands were cold for a few minutes, then were ok. I led the first pitch and that tends to warm me up. Was a bit chilly belaying.

A lot of questions are being asked, I hope as people get comfortable with the forum they'll add their voices. Remember, what's said in the forum, stays in the forum.

It's getting a little cold for rock, but will it be another great ice season? Here's a nice picture to whet our appetites. Click to enlarge.

Your hardcore Bill!

Adam P at the Coopers Rocks Foundation was supposed to be taking the lead as I understand it with regard to the top anchors. The top was surveyed and a map of suggested anchor placements was provided shortly after last years trail day but not sure whats been done since then.... I try to support what the CRF does but Adam has the relationship with the land manager there..that said Old painless is a a mere two hours away from two full battery charges if needed.

The broken hold on Laid Back at the Mill hasnt really changed the move too much..maybe a little more body tension but basically the same sequence....I'm not sure whats worse the dry tooling on the wall or the two bolts that appeared on Ross Boulder last fall (12' high) below it.

Charley-Wouldn't it have been a lot warmer on the east side?

Rackrat-Maybe that broken hold hasn't impacted you because you climb 5.13, but as one with slightly less stellar ability, I need a hold as I come over the roof. Supposedly, that was the hold. Bummer.

Anybody ever climb around Breakneck Bridge at the Mills? I worked on Zorro a couple times and really liked the wild start.

Wow, I am glad you have a person on their for scale. It is much more impressive. For a min. I didn't see the rope and thought he was free soloing it.

I am in Pgh too and am more than willing to head out with others. I have been climbing since January and started sport leading late this summer. Currently, I have only done top roping and sport leading. I would love to follow someone to start learning the placements and have them critique what I think I already know.

Anyone want a follower? I go to the climbing wall usually Monday and Thursday nights if you want to meet up sometime.

MM...which route at Bneck is Zorro?... I have stayed away from Bneck last year and this season just cause its been two wet seasons in a row up there. Also I wasn't trying to be smarta!@ about Laidback... 3 of us jumped on it after the hold broke thinking it would be a lot different but it was consensus that it hadnt changed it that radically(unless its broken even more). Peace...

I heard that Breakneck was getting torn down for logging or something. Does anyone know any more about this?

Is there anything that needs to be done to help this situation?

Rockrat,

Could Adam P come on the Forum and tell everyone what's going on re: Coppers bolts for toproping? I leave it in your hands.

Hey everybody, remember this isn't my forum, it's yours. I think every climber in the area should make him or herself known and help us become the stronger posse in the world.

OK I dream, but The Vixen is proud of all of you for making this a success. Long overdue. Spread the word please. Tell every climber you know. And if you get sick of me adding my 2 cents, just say so. It won't help, but freedom is where it's at man.

There's Breakneck Bridge area at the Mills, and Breakneck Rock at Connellsville.

Zorro is at Breakneck Bridge. You start up a ramp to the right until you can grab the crack, traverse back to the left, climb up and back to the right, and try to get over the roof.

Breakneck Rock has a new road bulldozed where the trail used to be. The rock is intact, but something is happening here. Any beta RR?

Vixen, thanks for the impassioned start, but enough is enough. Dry up and blow away! Actually, I hope everybody sends you a lot of love and thanks. It's the talk of the community! You rock, girl! Now post a picture if you're not hideously disfigured.

Remember, all pictures should display your charms to best advantage. No scrubs.

As for me, can it be a real old picture, like when I was 18 and looked kiiler in a bikini?

Ah..I was gonna guess that was what you were calling Zorro just from the well defined "Z" line... theres also a very fun one move (well maybe 2) wonder that goes straight up the face from the start of the ramp thats worth projecting... as for BN Rocks...

I was contacted by some friends who climb with the ECP regarding the timbering etc... At that stage, about a month ago, there was a rumor immediately circulating (as they do) that the cliff was going to be dynamited to provide egress for a logging road to the top. I asked Tim if he could please follow up since he obviously has the most at stake having developed the cliff and also knows some locals. I do understand the property changed hands since it was initially developed. Common sense tells me that it would not be cost effective to blast and move a 60' cliff when one can snake a skidder trail 50' left and some calls to civil engineer friends confirmed this. Thats not to say that a floating block or two down on the shelf might not be fair game but the area shows signs of prior logging and the blocks survived that round. If I hear any more Ill post it here.

Exciting news. Lurking on our forum is the local head of the Access Fund.

If you have any questions of an access nature, quit viewing and start posting! Use it or lose it, just like your sacred business.

Excuse me as I butt in...

I'm from the Pittsburgh area and usually climb near Connellsville, in the Laurel Highlands and at the Mills when I'm around. Right now I'm in Central PA so Bellefonte is my usual climbing area. I've been leading some trad, sport and aid (sorry climbinvixen, no ice but I'd sure like to try) and feel pretty confident on the easy/moderate routes.

I'm especially fond of long easy trad routes so if anyone is looking to take a roadtrip, I'd certainly be up for it.

Let's pray for a warm weekend day in December (NOT a home Steelers game) and have a WPCF climb and party day at Bellefonte. Who's up for this? Prayer that is. Ha!

Happy to come aboard.
I plan to start at "The Climbing Wall" in January to get back in some kind of shape. Will be looking for partners (not keen on bouldering). Toproping outside when weather turns reasonably warm and dry. Will be with POC on their Spring Seneca trip and will be much involved with ECP Rock School in late April and May.

If I don't get in much better climbing condition, I will not try leading any more. An unexpected leader fall on an easy climb last month warns me that it is probably time to step back from the sharp end.

Phil Sidel

Glad to see you on here Phil. Figured I say hello since I wasn't sure you knew my username on here.

If the forecast beckons, is there any interest ina Bellefonte trip to meet our easter troop?

The resounding silence after I mentioned it hurt my ears.

Enough? Seriously Eric, don't you know me better by now? I don't practice restraint in drinking, bad hygiene or general sketchiness. Why should it be any different for trips? Then again, why am I giving up Seneca for school projects this weekend? I am a boy who like his contradictions.

P.S. We now both have 3.5s that need scratches put on them.
