I'm 5'5 and climb 5.9, boulder v4. The thing that really helps me though is I'm really flexible so I can do some helpful unorthodox moves. Yeah yoga!

i'm 5'8'' and lead 5.10 sport, will work up to 13's on toprope. V3/4 bouldering.

one of my favorite climbing partners is 5'2. we enjoy climbing together because our approach to any climb is completely different. There have been a few times when one of us can do something the other can't because of height/lack of height. that really happens only in the gym. but for the most part, we climb the same level, and come up with completely different ways to get up a climb. I will stretch to a good hold, while she high-steps on a foot/hand match that would peel my ass right off the wall. all hail diversity!!

so i believe that height might affect how you approach some climbs, but you learn what's good with you and it doesn't affect your ability.

6'7" - 5.8 or 5.9

I find that my height sometimes hurts my technique because I can often simply reach past a difficult hold and grab something better.

My friends always tell me this story of being out in Yose bouldering and this dude was trying this problem. He couldn't do a move and kept complaining that height was a factor. Then Lynn Hill walks up and runs laps on it and says "Height is never a factor only strength and power." the dude was like 5'8" Lynn Hill is like 5'4". Could just be urban legend but who knows. yes some problems seem more geared towards tall people or short people but overall you can't blame height because you don't climb hard.

And all the people who can't climb 5.10 and have climbed a V6 WTF? Are you sure you were on the right problem cause that makes no sense.

I'm 5'10'', and I think that climbing is a "reach holds" sport, and if u are taller, u reach things better than short ones.

But there are situations that involve technique, and u might have some advantage being short, but it's not the most of the times.

Climbing is a matter of reach, if u're taller, u reach longer.

Let me guess you only climb in a gym?

No, I climb in and outdoors, I prefer outdoors, indoor climbing is a good tool for training, I like them both.

I'm realistic, that's all.

This is the stupidest statement i have herd to date on this web site
Maybe your just a5.10 climber!

I`m five foot eleven inches and have no problem sending 5.12+ and v7/8
its like saying i have small feet and legs and cant run long distances
running is a long leg and big foot orientated sport.

pfffsssss.

After all, climbing is not all about "climbing", and the "...long legs and long feet..." statement is the winner!

Just think about it, it's not rocket science...

I'm about 40m tall, so I can pretty much mantle each pitch. I feel pretty left out with this whole bouldering thing...

I'm 5' 0" and I think height does make a difference in your climbing style. I love to complain about my height, but it makes me use my feet a whole lot better. Where a taller person can just reach, I have to move my feet around and get a better position to reach a lot of holds. I'm sure it goes the same way for tall people, and sometimes I have the advantage.

I also think being tall or short makes a bigger difference in a gym because the routesetter sets for his/her height most of the time. routes outside aren't "set" for a certain height, but might be rated for a certain height.

ummm, i think im like 5' 10" or somewhere around there. lead 5.10s fairly consistently

boulder around V3 or 4

-Sean

different heights only means that you climb differently, not better

I'm 6'4" and couldn't really tell you what grade I normally climb. It's all over the place. I am capable of onsighting 5.11 on lead though, but not regularly. It seemed to me that after 5.9 or 5.10, height and strength no longer substitute for lacking technique. That being said, taller has almost always been beneficial. The exception is that there have been a few slab routes that, for whatever reason, I had a hard time with because my legs were so long and my feet so big. It's pretty easy to smear with a size 13. Edging on dimes is a little harder, IMHO.

height doesn't depict the grade you can climb...we all climb with different styles....and long reach doesn't neccessarly make grades seem easier (and height vs arm span is a totally different topics)
