I would like to point out (as a developer myself), that there was a horrific virus that was released over Christmas weekend, only it didn't resemble a virus at all, and 99.9999999983% of the virus scanners couldn't recognize it until it had activated itself. I keep my servers squeaky clean, but still managed to get hit with this 3 times in 2 days... The end result was the UNRECOVERABLE loss of 3 years of client graphic & data files that were safely stored on a backup drive. Yes, I said BACK UP drive. I also lost my primary drive which is used only for the OS and raw programs, since I never write data to the primaries. Aside from merely crashing, my primary drive has been rendered physically inoperable due to this virus, and when connected, now sounds like a handful of loose change rattling around in a coffee can. My backup drives were destroyed when I first attempted to {FDISK} and {FORMAT} the primary [C], because the virus had somehow invisibly redirected all of these keystrokes to wipe the additional drives, despite the commands that were entered. I can only assume that this was a protection level that was designed into what appears to be the nastiest virus I've seen to date. As soon as I realized what was actually happening, I began pulling wires in an attempt to stop the destruction, but it was too late... This particular virus has swept the globe faster than any other I'm aware of, and has brought the entire internet to a slow crawl, since so many of the primary level backbones have been hit as well. In an attempt to thwart the spread of this (until the fixes were in), a huge number of companies have simply unplugged their web & email servers, which has over loaded the already taxed system, in addition to redirecting that much more traffic through the infected servers around the world. What makes this so bad is, that this virus originally entered our servers as AdWare, which as I mentioned, is not a true virus by definition, but when activated by an attempt to rid the system of this AdWare, it propagates into a deadly Trojan that finds its' way to the very core of your system, rendering it useless. The easiest way to discover this, is if you suddenly see an additional tool bar on your web browser, and your home page is forever being re-directed and cannot be fixed. If you have this, then you are now part of the problem and need to immediately disconnect your system from all levels of networks and do what you can to get rid of the bugs. Unfortunately, at this point, you don't only have 1 or 2, but you could easily have as many as 50-100 separate and distinct variations 1 parent Trojan. Each time I swept my system, they actually multiplied exponentially! I have used a myriad of various cleaners to resolve the problems with my server, and the one single program that has finally detected and stripped the last remaining traces, is AVG-7. Additionally, I had to use Stinger and finally AVG's own "vcleaner". Norton's won't see it, but will kill your computer with a never ending rendition of "Blue Screen of Death", to the point that your system will default to an elementary level of Defrag upon startup... This is catastrophic, as the data is rarely unrecoverable at this point, and generally requires an external boot disk just to be able to get in far enough to {FDISK}, {FORMAT} and start all over. So far, with all of the systems I've encountered with this, I've been about 98% successful with the data recovery, but only because I do this for a living, and after having lost my own data, have resorted to some really old DOS level tricks that are probably older than many of you. Now, back to your regularly scheduled whining, bitching and moaning!

I should also mention that currently receive as many as 15-20 hits from this virus a day, but now have what appears to be (for now anyway) a bombproof safety net in place. I have received infected emails from chat servers and discussion forums that I have used over the years, and these emails are coming directly from the servers themselves, just as they would when you first sign up on a board somewhere. I can say though, that I have not received a single infected email from RC.com, and it's likely that it's because they have been down so much over the past few weeks... In retrospect, this could be a blessing in disguise, as we have a freakin huge membership base here, and it's that many less chances to spread this plague.

Nice job Tim and everyone else who help, even in the smallest way! The site is working great today!! tgreene, sorry to hear about your loss. worms suck and those writing them should be shot! Many hours are lost to these lil buggers, and like you, I'm sick of dealing with them. Just when you think the waters safe.

Skibby, If you must attack, attack the post, not the poster. Otherwise, you just give people the impression that tgreene's assessment was right on. -aB

Site's great, it's free, and if you can name one other thing in life that works perfectly all the time, I'd like to hear about it. Welcome to the real world... and BTW, my mother was a test tube, my father was a knife... by all means, have at the pre-pubescent personal attacks...quite amusing, really... abnormal psych in action....

Ahhh, give her a break... It's pretty common for fugly, asexual old maids to harness that type of anger. You have to realize that everyday she wakes up, is automatically destined to be a bad one. Also, it's a damn good thing that she can't see her reflection in a mirror, because she would really be pissy then! 8^)

In reply to: In reply to: Including your über b---- attitude! Atsa matta, you still mad at me because I wouldn't let you beg for money online? Oh, BTW, your mother just called. She said you should stop diddling your cousin (I couldn't get if she said "John" or "Jean") and come home and make her the usual breakfast gin and milk. Yeah, that was almost as bad as when a manager quit her position mid temper tantrum in a public forum, but no where near as bad as when a moderator slept with a user, told him she loved him, loaned him money and than posted a thread looking for him... but forgot to mention the first two points. Who was that again? :tinfoilhat:

Might I suggest that tgreene and skibabeage take their private argument to private communications? I've been having trouble seeing how, exactly, the back-and-forth insults fit into the category of "Suggestions, Questions, and Feedback." Thank you.
