where does everybody get their gear online from. i'm trying to find a place to get a new pair of red chili voodoos because my gym doesn't carry them anymore. i went to gear express and they had a very limited variety of shoes. any help is much appreciated.

Well, I'm about to make a $200 purchase from rei.com, mainly because I have $200 in gift certificates saved up from the holidays. When you sign up for their newsletter you get 10% off your next order, and you can get a 3% fastcash rebate through fatwallet.com. Not too shabby but I wish they had some alien offsets...

Mostly I buy offline through friends with connections.

they send you a portion of what you spend at the end of the year, if you join.

i geared up good for potrero so, i'm sure to at least get about half off on my next pair of shoes!

I've never bought from Over the Crux, but I've bought packs from Bitter Sweet Gear and had no problems.

REI ---> Nice stores, quality products, reasonable prices, convenient...

And most of all:

I'm not affiliated with REI in any way. Just a happy customer.

IMO REI gets you in tax and shipping charges. Gearexpress seems better to me. If only they had aliens.

I just bought a ton of stuff from various online retailers. I'll have to say I'm the most impressed with gearexpress.com. I used REI for aliens, cause I couldn't get them anywhere else.

I had (am still having) a bad experience with mtntools.com . They won't be getting anymore business from me. Not when places like gearexpress exist.

rei is cool...but i find i do most of my online shopping at either gearexpress.com or mountaingear.com. when i buy from rei i just take the 10 minute drive and go save myself the shipping cost and go to the store.

gearexpress.com is the place that I buy most climbing gear

campmor.com is the place for anytype of clothing/camping gear

Campmor is the BOMB for clothing/camping gear. I've like 6 dry fit shirts long and short sleeve for about $5 a piece. I got a waterproof/breathable Columbia softshell fleece (regular price $120) for $50 bucks...That's over 50% off the retail price.

They have the sweet deals on tents, backpacks, sleeping bags. Seriously, if you're a bit of a gear freak like I am sometimes...You should check out campmor.com

The other thing that I have found to be the BOMB is searching E-Bay for skis. There are some E-Bay Stores (Therasin and SkiUniverse) that are selling some great Head skis/Tyrolia bindings for $180-220. Which is just crazy.

Anyways...yeah I search for gear way too much instead of studying Organic Chemistry like I should.

I have bought from a few online retailers, my favorites are Shoreline Mountain and Northern Mountain Supply. Shorline Mountain had a really helpful and knowledgable person who could answer my questions when I called asking about items and the shipping was very fast. Northern Mountain Supply has great deals on gear (made even better if you join there mountain club), although shipping can be slower than most other companies, not to mention they have probably the biggest selection/ variety of gear I have found on the internet. I bought a full set of DMM Cams (11 units) from them four years ago for around $370.00 with tax and shipping.

I am not sure if any one has mentioned Mountain Tools but they are also very good for selection.

Other than that if you are looking for European brands try Barrabes I have never ordered from them but have heard good things about them.

My best internet shopping experience was with a company called Telluride Mountain, though, I think they went out of business a few years ago. They had really good deals.

Just a note on the REI shipping thing...

You can have the stuff shipped to the store nearest you and the shipping fee is waived...timing depends on how far you are from Seattle (where it is shipped from)

REI for pretty much everything. I get Wild Country items from Mgear.com though, since REI doesn't carry much WC. I'd get more from Mgear, but I like the dividend from REI (Which, by the way, should be comming next week... glee!) There aren't really any gear shops in Juneau, only Foggy Mountain, which doesn't carry any tard gear, only biners and stuff.

Yeah, pro-deals are nice if/when you can get them. I get some gear through sweet hook ups every once in a while. mostly pssive gear though. Although pro deals are often the kind of thing that can go away if you talk about them too much (unless you work for a gear shop...)
