I am looking to buy my first camera. Photography is something that I would like to get into, but I am looking to spend less than 200 bucks on my camera. This camera is listed in my area for about 175. Is this a good deal? Ive done some research but cant make up my mind. Too many models and too many specs. What are the pros and cons of this camera. I like that it is small so that I will be able to take it climbing with me without adding too much weight. Thanks for the input.

I like mine. In fact I've bought two since I smashed my first one.... Less than 170.00 at Amazon.com too... Great battery life, good in the cold. Very small and light. Pretty reliable and rugged. Pics are great too. And not too much $$$ so when you do smash it, it's not the end of the world... -Fear

I like my S110 a lot. As far as I can tell the difference between the S110 and the SD110 is that the S uses Compact Flash and the SD uses Secure Digital storage. I have had mine for 4 years and 6000 Pictures, mostly climbing and hiking (so it has had more than its fair share of knocks) and it is still going strong. I have two batteries and a 128MB Card, if I don't use the LCD or many flashes I can fill the card (aprox 130 pics) on two batteries. It takes good pics. Its size is nice since it takes up very little space. It is mostly a point and shoot camera though, not really for serious photography. But it serves my needs just fine. To sum up. Pros: Rugged (metal housing) Small Takes good Pics Good battery life and longevity Cons: metal housing = not really that light (if your an ultralight backpacker or something) Basically a point and shoot, not to much adjustability Final Thought: I highly recommend any of the digital elph line for backpacking and climbing pics. Powershots are great!!! I wouldn't think of buying a different camera...they're so frickin' tiny.....I've had S100, S200, and S110. My climbing/hiking friend has had S200 and S400. Many thousands of pics between all of them... I recommend taking great care to protect the LCD window, they are very fragile. One lil' bump (like from a mini-maglight next to it in your pack) and it's toast. Be sure to use the case at all times...a replacement LCD is about $130.00 from the Canon factory (and a hard part to chase down!). EDIT: Added the following: * $175.00 isn't a bad price. * I believe the S110 is a 2.2MP camera, and the SD110 is 3.2MP's... Great cameras. This pic is from my S110 - it's of the Sex Cave at Reimer's Ranch, Austin, TX. Part of liposuction (5.12a) can be seen. http://www.hvguy.4hv.org/temp/Sex%20Cave.jpg
