So I have this problem. I go to work real early in the morning too early to go to the gym before hand. When I get home from work I'm always really hungry but going to the gym on a full stomach never feels very good. However, if I don't eat I feel weak (obviously). What's the best thing to eat before climbing that will give you some quick energy but not weigh you down. Seems like the best solution is to eat a late lunch but that's now always possible for me.

I normally don't have anything at all before going to the gym right after work. If I do feel like I need something to tide me over, a granola/choc bar always do the trick. I never take energy bars because its too darn expensive compared to a snack bar. You shouldn't even be asking this question here, I think. I'm sure you can be creative and find something that would do the trick by talking a walk in the supermarket. Edited to add: Bananas normally do the trick for some people I know.

that would depend on the time thats gonna pass between climbing and eating. if its more than 3h before climbing i eat a regular meal and then something about 30min before climbing (like a chocolate bar). if its 2-3h before climbing, i just eat a regular meal. 1-2h i would eat some light pasta or fruit. less than 1h is chocolate&co time.

rice is the climbing fuel that works for me. A low G.I means it burns slow so you need to eat it a few hours in advance of your climbing. Can't go wrong with cold rice and raw fish for lunch.

A beer and a cigarette are good quick pick me ups. If you don't have time for both, then just the cig.

Hi aireq, I'm going to have to suggest that you eat a large handfull of prunes, then a bunch of dates, then some raisins. Top off with the best fluid EVER: coffee. You'll have tonnes of energy to send your rad-sick-ill proj. Brent

If in the kitchen: Toasted peanut butter and banana sandwich, with a bit of honey on top If out in the wild of life: Coffee and a cliff bar.

Got a Jamba Juice nearby? A smoothie with a protein boost is 400-600 calories (depending on size and ingredients.) How about something really simple--pack a peanut butter and honey sandwich. Take it to work and eat it about an hour before you climb. And drink plenty of water during the day. Staying hydrated gives you more energy, too. Anne

Lsd would make your stomach upset too. When I'm feeling a little down and need some energy I just stop on the other side of the tracks and pick smoke a nice rock. It will give you the energy you need and take your mind off the food idea. Besides crack rock, rock climbing they were made to go together.

I got this from Bridwell. Since fat is harder and takes longer to digest then carbs, you should eat something with very little of it. (IE not chocolate or nuts or the such) This will just make it so your body transfers more blood to your stomach and intestines when you need it in your muscles. So, while climbing or just before eat something light, a banana, some raisins (when I was in Japan they have an awsome convienence store treat called an Onigiri meaning rice ball. It's basically a triangle of white rice with some salmon/tuna/veggies inside. yum yum) Hope this helps.

^^^^ he summed it up nicely Fruits in general are good. They are easy to digest, but they contain some fructose for an immediate pick me up.
