Hi
when you get to Rio go to a gym called "Limite Vertical".
It's in the Botafogo area, next to Botafogo metro station.
There is even a hostel across the street of the gym.
It is open from 5pm to 11pm. I'm there every tuesday and thursday.
You will find plenty of people to climb with, including me. :D

thanks but I want to climb outdoors. Any suggestions of where to meet partners? Are there any crags which have lots of climbers?

oohhh, sorry, but that is exactly what I meant. Going there you will find partners to climb outdoors, including me. I''l be there and I would like to take you for a climb. And if I'm not available nearly everybody there climbs outdoors. I suggested the place just to give you more options of partners. It is a small place, everyone know each other. Most of my partners practice there.
The place also holds a rock climbing school with professional guides who do hired climbs.

I got your PM and I tried 3 times to reply but it would not go through.
Here are some of the answers:
I am in Chile now and head to Rio next week.
I owned a climbing gym and have done some guiding outdoors.
I only brought my harness and shoes. Do you have the other gear and rope?
I can rent a car.
I hope to rent an apartment in Copacabana (preferably on the Leblon side) or Botofago, otherwise I will stay in a hotel. If you have the time, maybe you can look into apartment rentals for me. I want to be in a safe area and only need a simple, clean and QUIET room!

Travel Guy,
I will be in Rio Nov 9th, 10th, 11th and would like to do some climbing. I prefer sport climbing, can lead hard 5.11. I could bring a rope but don't want to bring gear. Will be staying on Ipanema beach Are you around these dates?

I tried to pm you, but didn't succeed.
I saw some of your posts about climbing in Brazil. My wife and I will be in Rio from December 11 to December 16 and are planning to climb in Urca. We are generally self sufficient going to new places (Thailand, France, Japan, etc.) but since we will not be able to look at the guidebook until we buy one there, we are not sure about our ability to find climbs or bring the right gear (trad, sport - who knows?). Anyway, I wanted to ask whether you would like to join us during this period for climbing. We'll definitely make it worth your while.
