I am new to the area and going to check out Peterskill next weekend. Just wondering how much webbing/stat line i will need to set TR up over there. I heard there are some bolts in place and that trees are a no go. I was thinking of bringing like 80'-90' of webbing in various lengths. thanks for the help.

Moved from General to East Coast by WW. I think you'll find your answers here. Haven't made it to Peterskill myself yet, but I hope that you have a great time!

  meb,

Go to http://mountainproject.com/...peterskill/105896719 and forage through the route descriptions. It will help you get an idea of where the bolts are and which areas you can concentrate on.
Headed up for your birthday?

Jim

If you got pros, bring them cause they'll make your anchor building easier, since you don't have the sling the trees.

I'd guess that nuts/cams might be needed on 10% of the routes. At most. But as the poster above says, gear makes many of the anchors faster/neater/closer. As for trees, the ones you do not want to use are the pitch pines (the small, scratchy-looking ones), as they are a protected species. Others (oaks, birches, white pine) are OK to use. But the official rules are quite vague ("Don't put your ropes on the trees" or something like that) and enforcement seems to vary with the individual ranger.

The scene at PK is generally friendly and social so don't hesitate to ask others there for route locations, anchor beta, and so on. Also, last I checked, Rock & Snow was sold out of the PK guidebook.

I bring two 50' lengths of webbing, which is more than sufficient for a lot of the routes w/ no bolts. You can use trees that are not pines, but they tend to be relatively far from the cliff in most places.

Gear anchors are more convenient on some routes, so having a good selection will improve your options considerably.
