Hey everyone, I'm a (poor) student and new climber, going to Ouray in January and need to get some gear beforehand. If you have any of this or know anyone that does, please let me know the details and asking price on the forum or by e-mail, meghanmowry@gmail.com. Thanks! If you're going to Ouray for the ice festival, most of the gear you list can be demo'd for no charge... you leave a credit card or a driver's license and you can "check out" a pair of crampons, tools, etc.

FS: 4 BD Express Ice Screws, barely used, great shape, very sharp (used on one ice climb, didn't hit any rocks), 3 years old (old style with one carabiner hole), 2 x16 cm, 2x22 cm. $40 each plus shipping, other offers considered. email me at anthonyrabinowitz@att.net if interested. Would you care for a set of DMM Predators (missing 1 adze) spare picks (mixed climbing) and leashes?

I'm curious what a new climber is going to do with a Mini-traxion?

I think the key word is "new" though. Setting up rope solo systems seems to me at least to be a bit more advanced. Which seems to be confirmed by the problem that you mentioned.

I'm not comfortable by myself on ice anyway...way more potential "ouch, need help" factors than in rock (IMO).
