Although I did not know him, condolences to his family.
I have climbed there quite a few times and would never have though something like this could happen there. It's all really super good quality quartzite. One would never expect something to just break.
Info: Waterval boven is one of the best climbing destinations in South Africa with almost 1000 sport routes from easy to extremely hard. Good climbing all year round.
