I'm looking into getting some new ice boots this year. I'm looking at the trango ice boots from la sportiva. They use a different type of insulation other than thinsulate and I was wondering how warm they were. Currently I have the altitude + from tecnica and they are just about right for warmth.........thanks

I use the La Sportiva Trango Extreme and they climb super well in all situations. They keep my feet warm but I live on the coast and only temps around -10c. With a set of insulated super gaitors I think you'd be styling to at least -18c. They fit a longer narrow foot profile so try them on instead of buying on-line.

I find them warm enough for most conditions. Don't think there is must difference from the 200 thinsulate.

They're great for ice. Sportiva does a really good job of insulating the sole of the boot, which is where most of your heat loss comes from, especially for ice climbing. If you're going to spend a lot of time standing IN snow, as in more general mountaineering step kicking, breaking trail, etc., they might be a bit cold since there's not a lot of insulation on top of the boot.

They're great all-around! I've used them for pretty hard WI and M routes. I've also worn them for alpine routes as well. No complaints at all....
