Hey all you fabulous east-coast climbers out there- I just moved to Hanover form Utah and I'm looking for action (climbing, that is). Any tips from the natives? Anyone up to climbing with me? Im hoping to change my rock-less,partner-less status... Nathalie

The Dartmouth Mountaineering Club meets every Tuesday at 7 in the basement of Middle Fayerweather hall. Also, the climbing gym is down in the River Apartments on campus if you want to meet up with people there. You might have to wait for warmer weather to find a lot of people willing to go outside, though.

Welcome, Nathalie! This is a wonderful place to climb: Rumney for fun and no commitment, Cannon and North Conway for trad adventure, the Gunks for a weekend trip, and plenty of places to boulder. For the winter, I'll be confined to the Dartmouth climbing gym, which is awesome. There's plenty of ice here if you're into it, though. You should definitely come to a Tuesday night meeting if you're looking to meet some Dartmouth climbers! Jan

Rumney is gorgeous from late spring to fall, and there is camping across the street for climbers only. If you are into sport, it's the place to go. Go to Pawtuckaway for bouldering and Cannon, White Horse, or Cathedral for trad. Welcome to New England. Definitely make a few trips to the Gunks. You're probably about 5-6 hours away, maybe less. yo Dartmouth climbers i have a question for all of you: i am now a junior in high school and am seriously considering Dartmouth because of the rad climbing scene (oh and and i looks like a kick-a$$ school to boot - i like the 4 semester thing a lot) anyway i was doing a little research and, while the indoor gym at dartmouth looks really sweet, there are some rules that i don't exactly like... such as it only opening at 5 PM!!! anyway i was just wondering what u all think of it i.e. how much do u use the gym? thanks!

Believe me, if you're taking your fair share of classes, the gym opening at 5 is no problem. Besides, the monitors often opening up before 5 anyway. It's definitely a cool gym, with a lot of cool people. The cieling isn't high, though, so expect mostly bouldering problems. Other than that, it's like a home away from room away from home.
