In the new gear review (don't remeber which mag) saw that the stoppers were not CE or UIAA certified. Should I be worried?

Ummm, Climbing Mag gear review...

Yeah I saw that too. But not only that, but it didn't have Metolius cams as being CE or UIAA certified either.

I don't know if this is an oversight by Climbing or if neither of those are really certified. I should just go check my rack and see if there is a CE # on the Metolius cams.

Someone will probably beat me to it though, 'cus I'm at work right now...

?Anyone? ?Anyone?

Just checked the ABC website; it doesn't say if they're certified or not. :?

It is incredibley expensive to get gear UIAA certified. However, it is required if you want to sell the gear in Europe. Some manufacturers choose not to sell in Europe and skip the UIAA certification process. They pass these savings onto the consumer. That is part of the reason why the Huevos are so much cheaper than BD stoppers. They are just as strong however. I wouldn't worry about it. Stoppers have been around for decades and it is pretty hard to screw it up.

I just looked on ABC's websiter also and it doesnt say if anything climbing protetion is CE approved. They are tested to 1/2 thier rated strength so I wouldn't worry.

You could try emailing ABC. I emailed Rock Empire to find out if their nuts were certified and found out they were.
