For all of you USCCA kids and parents who attended Divisionals this weekend, how was it? I couldn't go to mine cause of an injury. :( Was it fun, long, well run, a disaster, judging problems, routes good or did they suck? Fill me in. Thanks!

All of 'em. I just wanted to hear how all of the Divisionals went. They seemed like they would be very big and hard to run with so many kids, so I was just asking. I know the Division 1 was not too smooth.

The Southwest Divisional went GREAT. Everyone was in good spirits. the MC, scott rennak, did a great job pumping up the crowd and keeping the competitors psyched. the routes were well-set and LONG (Rock'n and Jam'n has a huge lead wall) . too bad i misread a foot sequence and fell low on my finals route, but at least i'm going to nationals. word. ike

Six Hrs to climb (3) 30' routes is cruel and unusual.... Bob ...also putting a one bolt crimper (off hold) on top of a large hand/foot hold (on hold) is WRONG!!!!! ..letting local climbers touch starting holds prior to climbing is WRONG! ...other than that it was FINE..! Bob :D

vaness and madriver, I'd blame the head RC. I hear he's a real putz... Pumping 103 climbers through a two round comp was bound to be long and daunting. While the morning session went over-long, we made up for lost time in the afternoon. I had e-mailed the other RCs ahead of time saying that I expected the Awards to start at 7 PM; instead they started at 7:40 and were done by 8:10. It could have been much worse. As for the hold that was off route in the F12/13 finals, that should never have been there; even the head routesetter had no idea where it came from. It was, however, the only hold on the entire route that was not completely surrounded with tape, and thus off route. My instructions to groups that I previewed were to not touch starting holds. If someone else allowed that, then at least it would have been the same for everyone. As a side note, I hear that is allowed at Worlds, so not completely a bad thing or without precedent. I appreciate hearing your comments, they will help things run smoother in subsequent years. Loran

Loran.. All in all I think the Divisional Comp will be good (see my comments USCCA Board)....I anticipated the time overrun...however...the Divisional format has to be of Nationals caliber...I.E....Wave format staggered climb times....quality routes etc. I think this will evolve. In general I thought the comp went O.K. See you in Richmond, Bob :D

No, Bob, you won't see me in Richmond. My daughter dislocated her shoulder at the very first local comp and had to have arthroscopic surgery to repair it. She missed the entire season and only got cleared to climb 5 days before Divisionals. So.....we will not be attending Nationals; opting instead for an Alaska trip. As for the comp, I can live with O.K. Best of luck to Vicki at Nationals!!!

Thanks, Vaness, you always were my favorite. (er, don't tell Rachael I said that, OK?). I'm glad that you enjoyed the Divisionals, I'm sure they will get better each year as the kinks get worked out. I have already told the USCCA that I plan on returning for next season, and Meaghan is now back climbing after her injury and trying to return to her former competition self in time for the ABS in the Fall (perhaps Autumn is the better word to use there, from a climber's standpoint?). Anyway, kick some major butt at Nationals; they are alot of fun and you will definately never forget being there. New England North representing!

What about all of the other regions? There doesn't seem to be much info on the USCCA website. :?
