Chris Sharma, one of the biggest leaders in climbing today, was stripped of his World Cup Bouldering trophy when he tested possitive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. Many questions are raised from this issue, and I thought I would bring them up for discussion. First of all, aside from what anyone thinks about drugs, it has been proven that marijuana does not enhance one's ability at all when snowboarder Ross Rebagliati was reinstated his stripped Olympic Gold Medal. If anything, it's hindering. So, considering this, should Sharma have been stripped of his trophy? There's plenty of people that smoke pot, but since Sharma is a role model, should this nullification stand? What about when you are out climbing and you run into other climbers who are high? I don't want some toasted climber dropping rocks and stuff on me. I personally think it was a bad decision on Sharma's part and because of his status, he needs to pay the consequences. However, I do not think that it in anyway shows he's a bad person and he is still an amazing climber...I just wonder how much better he'd be if he didn't toke up?

Marijuana is not a performance-enhancing drug. It's none of anybody's business, including the competition's sanctioning agency, if Sharma smoked marijuana before a comp. -Jay

what is your definition of performance enhanceing? I mean, weed does cut down on pain, which could enhance climbing performance... I dunno, just a thought . Gilthanass

it's a shame that he got the trophy stripped, but he desided to smoke the suff it wad his fault. You make the choise to do drugs and what happens to you is your problem as well.

I think he got what was coming to him, he knew what could happen and he still smoked pot, he got what he diserves.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to bring up old news...I just searched and searched and couldn't find any forum on it. I guess I was just curious as to what people think, not so much about marijuana, but just about those types of choices and how they relate to climbing. Sorry to bring it all up again.
