Depends where you're going - it's huge place - and if you'll have your own transportation. Skagway has good granite accessable for car-less tourists. Anchorage has poor climbing within easy hitch-hike and great climbing within 90 minute car ride. Fairbanks is the next step down.

My advice - figure out where you're going, do area searches here on rc.com, buy guidebooks online then come back with more specific questions.

If you do have free time and a car, I'd consider bringing skis. Late May / early June offers perfectly prepared corn couloirs and sunlight past midnight.

Enjoy,
Jeff

Aside from the rest of Alaska, here in the Southeast in Juneau we have an indoor gym, and a few areas outside of town along the roads to climb.

There is always throwing the crampons on and trekking the Mendenhall Glacier, easy access via trails.

email if you make it to Juneau

outdoor sport climbing in Alaska in crappy at best... only a handfull of spots even worth checking out... frankly, i wouldn't bother... if you're only going to be there for 2-3 weeks, i would leave the climbing gear at home and spend your time hiking and camping out in the wilderness...

There are excellent hikes in Alaska and they can last for as long as you want them to... if you want some recommendations, let me know...

The groomed nordic trails in Antarctica suck too.
