who's psyched?

are there regulars/locals who can give a guesstimate of the chance of the comp being postponed to the rain date?

i'm trying to figure out travel logistics. self-debating whether to fly home sunday evening (leaving HP40 by early afternoon sunday) or fly back monday early morning (so that i can climb sunday, if i've the skin/energy, but would also cost extra $ for motel sun night + car rental)

anyone willing to pick up/drop off my sorry butt at Atlanta Hartsfield Fri/Sun? i'm willing to do my share of the driving and chipping in for gas $. would just need space for me + pad. camping stuff too, unless splitting a warm and comfy motel room (bug + smoke free) is a viable option.

mmm....slopers

I can't wait. Hound Ears was awesome. HP40 is shaping up to be even better.

announcement taken from TripleCrownBouldering.org (emphasis mine)
In reply to:
Important Information
Triple Crown will cover the cost of camping for Saturday night only. Climbers camping at HP-40 on Friday are responsible for paying the camping cost for that night.

No Dogs are allowed at the competition--leave your pets at home.

Do not bring ANY glass containers to the competition.
Glass is easily broken and makes for incredibly heavy trash cans.

We are looking forward to the HP-40 leg of the Triple Crown Bouldering Series! There will be an interesting "showdown" in the Men's Elite category--Litz, Sharma, Carrion, Bosley, Young and several others will vie for top honors. Will Litz be able to repeat his command performance at Hound Ears?!?

In the women's elite--Can anyone challenge the powerful Lisa Rands?!?! Kate Reese, Natasha Barnes, and Michelle Smith will certainly do their best to close the scoring gap that Lisa created at Hound Ears.

Just for the record, camping plus usage fees at Horse Pens is typically $8 per night per person. Under normal circumstances they will bring fire wood to your camp site for $4 for a large bundle. Pretty much anything else you could want is available at their little camp store. These obviously won't be standard circumstances though so who knows.

Also, I have heard a couple of stories about dogs being shot at Horse Pens so do not under any circumstances bring your dog. If the dog isn't directly tied to you it may be declared a stray and shot by the land owner. I kid you not - the guy has a gun on him at all times. The owners are really great people but for some reason they do not like dogs wondering around.

Man I can't wait - this is going to be fun.

I can't wait for the comp!

I'm not sure if anyone here has checked the registration lately, but SHARMA is gonna be there. He isn't listed for the other stops, just HP40. That's worth the price of admission alone. Also, James Litz, Lisa Rands, etc...what more could you ask for?

This weekend will FINALLY cool off into the 60's. Perfect!

I highly doubt this kinds thing will happen during/around the comp. But he's gotta watch out--it's unfenced land and coyotes, strays, etc, can wander onto their land and hurt their dogs, so he's just watching out. Remember, folks, this is basically the Schultzes' backyard we're climbing in.

For anyone wondering, there is no cap set for the number of competitors for this leg of the series. If you've been wanting to go but wasn't sure if there was space, c'mon down!

34 degrees...camping on friday night is going to be a wee bit chilly

Man oh man, this place was awesome, and anyone who didn't go missed out big time. It was an absolutely beautiful day out for climbing, and as a first time HP40 goer, I am eagerly awating the comp next year, or the next earliest ttime I can drag my ass down there.

great weather, great energy, great climbing! my thanks to the Schultz family for letting climbing, and comps, happen at HP40! and thanks to the Triple Crown staff for all the hard work organizing, tagging the problems, and etc.

on a sadder note, my crashpad is now MIA. accidentally or intentionally, i do not know. it's a green Misty Mountain Highlander pad with plastic buckles (not exactly unique in the southeast). it has tophat wearing smiley faces all over the carpet side in various colors (a bit faded) and a silver smiley on the Misty product tag on that same side. i'll see if i can put an image of the smiley i'm talking about online somewhere and link to it. also, one of the plastic buckles on the side is cracked.

it was last seen in a pile of pads in the fall zone of "Beer, Guts, and Glory", just around the corner from "God Module", around 3:30-4:00. i left it to help cushion the long fall and when i came back, not too long later, it was gone.

i'm hoping that someone accidentally picked it up and realizes it. if you have it, or see it, please contact me!

*edited to add time last seen by me

Yea, I lost my hat and chalk bag...my hat at Sandrock on Friday I think, but my chalkbag(which I loved) I left at Bum Boy, went somewhere, and came back a bit later and it was gone. Who steals a chalk bag, honestly. If anyone happened to find an off white Prana chalk bag, with brown trimming down the sides, on a piece of looped red accessory cord, then letting me know would make my day. But alas, I fear I'll never see it again.

...to anyone who lost stuff at HP40. I seriously doubt that anyone stole your stuff. Piles of pads, chalk bags, shoes, stuff is all over the place. You move from one problem to another without realizing that you forgot to bring something with you. A pad should be an easier item to recover if it is well marked. Unless you have some totally unique pad there are dozens of whatever brand you have out there and they ALL look alike. If someone picked up the wrong pad and they find your mark on it I would think they will do what they can to return it. I would suggest you write name and telephone number on your pad. Especially if you go to a lot of comps. I speak from experience. Have pads, kids, and lots of shoes scattered around the USA.

Looks like it was James Litz, followed by Matt Bosley, then Zach Pitts, then Sharma.

...

Of course, I don't care about that. I care about the men's recreational category (V0-V2). I had a solid day, so bring on the results!!

My results: the best day of bouldering I've ever had in life, strongest and most sends in one day, and after climbing sport all day before that at sandrock! Wow, wow, wow, I love southeastern sandstone!

We wanted to deliver a giant round of thanks for all of the support at Horse Pens-40. Beautiful weather, a massive turn-out (apprx. 600 climbers and spectators), and unbelievable energy made for a fantastic event.

Hundreds turned-out just to see some of the best climbers on the planet--Chris Sharma, James Litz, Lisa Rands, Wills Young, Jason Kehl, Brian Capps, and last year's "king" Matt Bosley to mention a few. In all, twenty-eight states were represented by competitors from around the country. Please visit our website at www.triplecrownbouldering.org for new competition photos (coming soon), updates, and information on the grand finale at Little Rock City in just a few short weeks. Also see the "much visited" website of the Southeastern Climbers' Coalition at www.seclimbers.org. Triple Crown information, pictures, interviews (with Lisa Rands, Jim Horton and Chad Wykle) can be found on the homepage of this website. Thanks again for ALL of your support!! Best Regards-
Chad Wykle Jim Horton, Triple Crown founders and organizers
