whats tips would you give to your non-climber photographer friends to get good consistent shots....


what distracts you the most?

"more of the route or more of the climber?" that would depend on the route. if its really spectacular (like serious exposure or cool background), then more of the route/background, but generaly its better to include more climber.

generally its also better to use a wide angle lens and take the pic from a small distance away. at least i prefer those shots. but for nonclimbers thats gonna ba a bit harder to achieve. close ups (even macros) are also cool sometimes, like a facial expression, of fingers closeup.

things to avoid are buttshots, buttshots and buttshots. those are almost never good. its generally better to be above and to the side, or at elast level with the climber.

but notice how i use words generally and almost never and such. you cant give any good general tips that would help someone thats already a photographer (and knows composition, lightning etc) on general climbing shots.
