Normally when I am logged in and browsing threads, I am taken directly to the first new post. Today I seem to be going to the start of the thread, even though the new posts are still marked. Just me?

Noticed this too. Though it only happens when a new post is beyond page 1 ( 2 - ). And it is not consistent either.

It is still happening and fairly annoying - are others getting this? It seems to be fine clicking from the main forum page, but not in a forum. For example, there are posts in the "my 1st gumby epic" thread I have not read. From the main page, the link is "http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2014121;page=unread#unread", but within the forum the link is "http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2012234". Testing on a few forums, the first style link works but not the second.

No matter what I try, I can't get this to happen. Is it still doing it to you?

It is still happening to me. FF or IE it doesn't matter which browser I use. When I click on a thread from the individual forum it will jump to the first post in that thread, regardless of what page the latest reply sits on, unless the thread still sits on one page. When I click the link to view a post from the forums list - the latest reply in a forum - I will, however get directed to the latest reply. It happens consistantly in all forums. When I click to the last or next page to view the latest reply it is 50:50 that it will or will not jump me automatically to the latest reply to the thread.

Still happening to me too, at home and at work. I've logged out and logged back in, same thing. I am using Firefox 3.0.3 in both locations.

Still happening (now on FF 3.0.4 in both locations). I've logged out, cleared rc.com cookies, and rebooted. The forum pages I am sent just do not have the link to the unread posts like they do for the most recent thread listed on the main forum page. I guess not very widespread, but it makes it really annoying to try and follow threads.

And everything is still working like normal for me. If you haven't already done it, do me a favor check your settings (Settings, in the secondary nav bar above.) You should have these settings picked: Default Post Display: Flat In flat view, when viewing thread: Jump to first unread post. Post back here when you're done. If that wasn't the issue I'll ask Daniel to check it out, and if he has no clue, I'll submit a ticket. J

I checked, and that is what my settings show. I even changed and re-saved them. I did some more investigation though, and it seems to be that opening a thread in a new window/tab fails to jump to the first unread post (whether ctrl-click, middle click, or right click and select "open link in new ..."). Left clicking to open it in the same window jumps to the last post just fine, whether it has new replies on the first page or elsewhere. Does everyone else really just browse in one window/tab?

My settings are as described above. And it is happening whether I multi-tab browse or single-tab browse.

I'll sign. It's broken for me, and is very frustrating. But look on the bright side... It'll drive up the page views.

I'm stumped. I can't get it to do this, no matter what I try. Start listing browser specs and exact situations in which this happens and doesn't. Let's get as much info as we can, and then I'll turn it over to the developers.

Happens consistently on Firefox 3.0.4 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/3.0.4 At home and work, as well as on IE at work (7.0.5730.13CO). Windows XP Pro at work and 2K at home. It started happening to me in all places / browsers at the same time, so it seems account specific. Feel free to log in as me to check (assuming your blue font makes that possible).

If I undstand what you are trying say.......then I can't help you, because it has always worked that way for me Lemme see if I can describe what I am seeing, and then you can say if that is what is what you see (and if that is different than what you were previously seeing....): There are 3 links available to any given thread. 2 will take you to the newest post, and one will not. Screenshot 1:
If I click on either the title (#1) or the blue arrow (#2), I will be taken to the correspondingly numbered link below (both will take me to the newest post). 1) http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2024612;#2024612 2) http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2024612;unread#unread If I follow the link to the forum (*LINK*), I am obviously taken to the forum page.... Screenshot 2:
...where I now only have the option to click on the title (#3), but the link is in fact different than the link on the title on the previous page 3) http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2024612

Your link number three is the main issue. If I click on it from within a forum, a link like: http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2012703 when LEFT clicked takes me to the newest post, with the resultant URL turning into something like: http://www.rockclimbing.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2012703;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread If I click the link to open it in a new window/tab (center click, or right-click and select "open in new window/tab", or copy the link and paste it in a new window) it stays the original URL above and goes to the first post. Clicking to open in new tabs should go to the latest post and always had, until recently. This new/buggy behavior makes it really difficult to catch up on threads as I used to open up all that I wanted to read in new tabs, then go through them from the first unread post.

Ah, now I see. I have my browser set to open those links in the same window/same tab, which is why mine is working and yours isn't. I tried it your way, and sure enough... there it is. Thanks guys. I'll get the developers working on it.

This just happened to me for the first time today. I've always used middle click in firefox to open threads in new tabs, and it's always taken me to the first unread post. Until today, that is. FWIW, I'm using firefox on an intel mac running leopard. Edit: It's also happening when I open a link in the same window, so it's basically affecting me no matter what I do now.

I think they're working on this today, so things may change from moment to moment until it gets done. More later.

This just started happening to me. If I'm on my topics the thread link doesn't come up with the unread#unread mumbo jumbo. So I end up at the begining of the thread. But if I'm in a particular forum, say general or campground, it does. And I end up at my first -NEW post

If I'm navigating from My Topics (the best way to really keep up with the threads I'm interested in), it's taking me to the first post. From other parts of the site, it's navigating to the first unread post. Not life-threatening, but annoying.
