So I started climbing about 3 months ago. Was going to school in New England and went to a crag near Boston. I also took a course on top-rope anchors on vaction up in Squamish.

Now, I'm at home living in the Philadelphia area and looking for some places to climb and maybe an expereienced local to help me out. I've read about some of the places around here and am dying to check them out: Livezy, Tohickon, etc.

So, if anyone is interestedin showing me around a little or just trading rides, please let me know!

Thanks!
-Steve

PS - almost forgot: I bought gear to go top-roping which is what I am primarily interested in right now. Wouldn't mind learning to second or lead some though, just don't have the gear or experience right now.

I'd recommend learning to lead in a gym..Philly has tons of awesome gyms...

As for Philly climbing, well, the bouldering ain't bad. Haycock Mtn is awesome I hear. The locals seem to love Ralph Stover, but other tell me not to waste your time. However, since you need a place to start, I'd recommend looking into there.

Good luck and God Bless

Good old Ralph Stover. rwaltermyer is right in the fact that locals love it, everyone else tends to hate it. Just depends on what you are use to I suppose. I also agree with rwaltermyer that you should definately start to lead indoors and make sure to take a couple of falls before moving outside. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what type of skill level/instruction is required to lead at the gyms around Philly.

If you'd like to head up to Ralph Stover sometime, send me a PM I'd be more than happy to show you around. I TR and I'm starting to lead.

Thanks for the advice! I was planning on learning to lead indoors first and you are right, there are some great gyms here that can make that easier.

Steve, if you want someone to show you around Tohickon...take up x2drich on his offer. He took me and my friend to Stover and showed us the ropes and was a great help. Hell, he even waiting around for us when we got lost getting there and were an hour and a half late. Highly recommend.
