I am looking at buying my first set of slcd's and have been looking at the Cassin can cams. I have read everything I could find about them and nobody has had a bad thing to say. My concern is that they are all rated at 10kn where as BD and WC slcd's are rated upto 14kn. Is this to low a rating to trust this product with my life?

Which cassin item broke on you, and under what conditions?

In reply to: I am looking at buying my first set of slcd's... My first cams were a set of 1-8 metolius rangefinder. I'm still loving them.

I found there to be serious drawbacks to cassin cams in the smaller sizes. I can't remember what size we're talking of exactly here, but the we're talking about the first couple in the size range. I found that due to the main wire being bent, it was impossible, if not difficult to retract all four cam lobes, making placements useless. The bendwas not the result of falling said cams, as they were brand new in the store, but had bent from normal handling in the store. I just want to highlight again that the cam was brand-new and had not been used. The main wire, the body of the cam essentially, was bending when retracting the lobes, and this caused the lobe manipulation to be sacrificed eventually. If you're trying to save some money, I saw go with DMM, Trango, Rock Empire, etc. Cheers, Nik PS - I have the rockempire flex cams, and love them. Supplemented their 8 with a number 9 New flexcam from Trango.

Look at the rating on most brands of nuts, its probably 10 KN to, do you trust those with your life? With that being said I perfer the DMM Cmas myself, I have been more than happy with them.

all im gonna say is that i never hear good things about cassin gear, only bad. a guy died this november because he decked at the gunks when a cassin cam broke. true, it was an older model, but its still not to confidence inspiring. id go with dmms, forged friends, trangos, or robots instead.

I've always heard that a fall above 12kn would likely kill you, and if it didn't you'd wish it did. That said, I see no problem with a 10kn vs 14kn rating. I've been looking at their cams on pagangear.com. You can't beat the price, but there just doesn't seem to be enough information out their for me to put my trust in them yet.

The trango flex cams are great as a starter set, or even just for anyone. If you can find a nice deal on a set they are well worth the money. I purchased a set of 6 of the "older style" flex cams, thought I was going to get it for $191 bucks, then they ship me the "new style" ones and 'forget' to tell me until I open the box and see them. Ended up getting charged 300 bucks for the 6 cams. I would be really pissed, but they turned out to be really sweet cams, so I'll survive. The direct offset lobes are pretty cool on the smaller sizes. no on the cassin, I, too, have heard only bad things about them

A quick note: the Cassin Cam which failed had been discontinued in favour of their new Cassin Can Cam range... The model I handled looks like the one that blew, and I haven't had a chance to confirm whether or not the one I handled was a Can Cam. Another note on the accident: the poster doesn't specifically blame cassin, and posters mentioned that the type of failure could theoretically occur on any cam. Good luck and play safe. Cheers, Nik

Sacrafice a little more dough to get some gear you are really happy with. Chances are you are going to have and use it for a long time and it's worth an extra $10 a piece (coming from the dirtiest, cheapest, cheeseball on this site) to not say "I hate this piece" every time you place it or be super sketched every time you are 5 feet above it. In addition, my car was made in a waffle factory Mr. Squeakyclimber.

My advice is you buy Rock Empire Robots or WC tech Friends, the robots are cheap and good and the tech friends are the best but more expensive.
