i think you may have taken this comment the wrong.

And what would be the right way to take it?
Would you ask punk the same question?

Unfortunately, judging of the 2004 GOTYs has been held up because the Executive Vice President of the GOTY Awards ® is trying to graduate from college, and has begun working something akin to a Real Job. Nonetheless, the GOTYs Must Go On, as we say in The Industry. Thus, I am hereby opening up the 2005 GOTY Award nominations.

I dunno, somehow this just seems really mean spirited. Gumbies get called out so harshly in the main thread and usually their mistake is just not knowing when to quit after typing something without really thinking it through.

If you wanna do a contest, I think a good one would be "Monkey can't let go of the quarter" contest. Try to find posts where people have held onto failed arguments for too long. Obviously, if it's not almost unanimous that the argument was held for too long, maybe it wasn't.

Exactly. Saying something stupid isn't usually sufficient for a GoTY nomination. Insistance that your stupid statement is still correct after more knowledgeable individuals have repeatedly corrected your statement is. I don't see that as mean-spirited.

No, you can't. Not even remotely in your wildest dreams will you ever in your lifetime climb anything anywhere approaching 5.14 in any style whatsoever.
Until you change your username to piton514, no one will ever believe this claim.

That's because years of rec.climbing has thickened your skin and desensitized you to dickhead forum behavior and good old fashioned meaness in general.

GOTY needs a companion award, DHOTY, ie Dick Head of the Year. You should not be able to award the one without the other.

Just as there will be only one or two genuine contenters for the GOTY, there are really only a couple of obvious choices for DHOTY... know what I mean? The award could be a 12 inch purple dildo!

May I suggest that we name this prestigious award the Richard Cranium of the Year. Most true DHOTY candidates would not understand the pun, making the award all the more precious. And the final winner could be knighted -- Sir Richard Cranium.

And dingus, only a 12 incher?

I don't know, Dingus. I really don't understand behavior like this: Someone with obviously no comprehension of high school physics posts on the subject as if he were an authority, and makes the ridiculous error of assuming that the velocity of a free falling body under gravity, with initial velocity of zero, is constant. Two people, both engineers, point out the obvious contradiction, and yet the OP, in two more posts, posts more blatantly erroneous physics in an attempt to prove his indefensible position, making a complete fool of himself.

Since the poster has already made a public fool of himself, and gone down in flames in the original thread, so I don't see that there can be any serious objection to a thread such as this.

Any night I can't sleep I sit here and respond to inanities, one hand around a brown bottle, the other ready to spell-check. Without an inherent and obvious hierarchy, there will always be fools trying to take the throne.

I have no objection whatsoever Jay. But I'm permanently scarred by the Zau-moron factor and his permanent detractor, a symbiotic relationship from hell.

It just seems to me that proper balance of yin and yang means if there is such a GOTY then too there MUST be a RCoty as well.

There has to be one. Or there is no god.

Jay- the quote came from pg 3 of your link to "How to Detect Experienced Climbers" (The original post for this thread.) Oh- and I'm sorry. I mis-quoted, but I love it so much you can now view the entire quote on my signature.

I just read the "spotting experienced climbers" thread, and punk's postings had me in absolute stitches for a good hour. Apart from the terrible physics, these are my favourite examples of one man's total idiocy:

In reply to:
without experience ya cant create a benchmark

In reply to:
I'd rather be constantly lucky than experienced.

In reply to:
In reply to:

I've taken three falls in a row from over twelve feet, out of a layback, hitting the ground PROPERLY each time, and not had a scratch.

I'll be laughing when your luck runs out

does he want luck or experience? he needs a bullet!

In reply to:
<*snip: discussing impact when you land on a crash pad>

you should know that energy is not absorbed it converted to heat, potential and kinetic of the pad when it bounced back

i think he's trying to say that you risk the pad catching on fire if you fall on it from too great a height (he's talking about a 5 foot fall here)

this guy must be GOTY. i just don't see how he could possibly be beaten....

he wins on raw stupidity, on self-contradiction, on moronic inferences, moronic propositions and his amazing ability to make posts that are so hard to comprehend that you want to tear your own eyes out. there is literally no limit to his achievements in being an absolute fool. it really is an admirable effort

In reply to:
As for climbing abilities, I can climb 5.2 with the best of them only if I aid it and as for physics in the world of Ganja it applies and it is mad scary falling from 5 feet.

is he joking? i don't know. either way, i think the award must go to punk by default. what an exhibition!
