I wear a size 6.5 - 7 womens but I have a narrow heel, and I always wear shoe inserts.

I am new to ice climbing. First day was Saturday, LOVED IT!!

Any input would be grately appreciated.

Thanks

Several companies make women specifc boots. I've known women who climb in La Sportive, Salomon, and Kolflach. The only really good advice is to try some on, unfortunately. Heal lift, or lack there of, is of primary importance.

I also know a woman who climbs in the la Sportive Trango Ice, which is not woman specific.

I climb in a small sized narrow boot. My width is a Men's B. That translates to a normal width for a woman.

This is the reason I often buy women's boots.

If going for leather's, been a while (8 or 9 years) since I bought a new leather boot, I've done well with La Sportiva's.

If going for plastics, I'd recommend checking out boots with an Intuition liner. They mold to your feet. They're very warm and very comfortable. I can't , however, speak to how well they stand up to the test of time.
Scarpa used to make the Alpha with an intuition liner and they have a very narrow profile and are pretty light.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the input guys.

I went to two shops and tried on boots... but they had no women's specific and the men's didn't fit right.

I'll keep on looking.

Thank you :D

Check out these Scarpa Alpha's http://www.sierratradingpost.com/.../est./qx/product.htm

My wife just picked up a pair, fairly narrow feet, and they fit great. Plus, the price is WAY right.

You may also have to make some modifications to a boot if you have problems with your heels (I do). Get some closed cell foam and you can create layers of foam to help fill in the boots.

Highangle,

I checked out the site. Unfortunately they don't make boots small enough for me. Thanks any way

My wife also likes the La Sportiva Trango. She too has a narrow heal and the boot seems to work well for her. :D

Kayland's super ice, womens specific. awesome boot.

they have a leather heel cup wich moulds to your heel and heel lift is a problem you dont have to deal with if you get these boots fitted right. They are really warm for a leahter boot to, as they are insulated with primaloft and lined with eVent.

here ya go:

If you have narrow feet, especially a narrow heel, I would highly suggest staying away from the Koflach Degre. After all kinds of modifications and foam inserts (short of buying custom foot beds), I still can't keep my narrow heel down. I also like to blame my equipment for why I suck at ice climbing.

Thank you everyone for all of your info! I agree about the Koflach. I rented a pair and my heel was a bit loose; toe box was great though.

Has anyone ever tried the La Sportiva Nepal boot or the Soloman SM xpert?

hey there,

I have the Nepal Extremes for women. You know, those bright lime green boots by Sportiva. These fit me great. I too had a difficult time finding a boot for my small feet. Unfortunately, most local gear shops only carry boots for men and usually, not small enough. REI however does carry more women's boots. You may try them.

I've hike in mine for the approach, little stiff, but once on the ice, they were great, warm and comfy. Did my first ice climb in them last year right out of the box and didnt have to even break these in. Price is a bit stiff, but you'll get years of life. hope that helps! good luck! 8^)

i had real problems with plastics (Koflach's).. not sure why but they left huge bumps and bruises on my shins, could have possibly been the crampon strap constricting movement.i tried many different sizes but nothing helped.. i climb in La Sportiva Makalus. not womens specific, but i LOVE them and i have small feet, size 6's.

I don't want to do any mountaineering at the moment. So the nepals may be my best bet. Unfortunately there are not too many shops around where I could try on an array of boots in my size.

Thank you everyone
